At first, I thought 'hearing' was supposed to control the distance at which red/green dots appear on the map. However, after wearing lots of +hearing equipment I really didn't notice any change in this. In fact, I couldn't notice any change at all.
So, what, exactly, does 'hearing' control?
Thanks, -Mike

I believe you will literally hear monsters sooner. Skeleton bones clacking together, orcs grunting, and so-forth. Monsters also have hearing levels; if you're nearby they can hear you walking around or fighting other monsters and will come to investigate.

Hearing does not exist as a skill, but can occur as an equipment bonus. I found it somewhat handy as an early warning system, though not really necessary since my strategy was the same for all opponents (whack them repeatedly with a long, sharp piece of metal).
'Spark' spell books can give you a level in Lightning or Elemental Strike (IIRC). You have to check the description that scrolls up the screen when you learn it, or check out your levels before and after.

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. Spell books labeled 'Spark' can teach you different skills; one book might raise Lightning, the next one gives a level in Elemental Strike/Hail (don't recall). Check your skill list; a couple skills should be higher than before, even if they are not maxed.

I have also found a spell book for a skill I don't have. It was called Fear and I found it in Iona's dungeon. The cover looked similar to Withering Curse, with the ghost face. Any ideas?

I remember getting that, and think it taught me something useless, but I don't remember what. If you still have it, you could save then click on the Fear book, and check out what the description on screen says (pause first, and it will not scroll off screen).

I'm currently playing Wizardry 8 , and there I noticed something interesting:
A "skill" - basic attributes, that is - is represented in numbers.
Reaching the number 100, this "skill" / attribute - for exanmple strength - unlocks another "expert skill", because 100 is the highest number possible.
I had expcet (lol) something happening when "maxing out" (where does this term come from ?) a certain skill, but there never happened something extraordinary ...

It is quiet common around the Diablo2 realms, there it means putting all skill points possible(20) into the skill.
Go screw yer wares, human.
