Larian Studios Forums Divinity 2 - Ego Draconis (English) Help/Tips/Tricks Can't kill Zagan's minions

OK, so here is the problem: I am level 24 and having great trouble with defeating Zagan.

Using health/strenght/dexterity potions I can barely defeat Zagan himself, but that's due to his minions taking away half my hp on every hit, I have to dodge EVERYTHING and there are lots of them.
When I defeat Zaga and I get the cave collapse animation: THe same second I switch back to the game, I get killed by the minions that were still alive. As in: 1-shotted, no time to respond.

I decided to tune the difficulty down all the way to "casual", but even on casual these minions can 2-shot me and it's still impossible to win the fight. I did some searching around, but I could only find complaints about DKS, claiming the fight in Ego Draconis is very easy.

What am I doing wrong?

If you reload a save before triggering the cutscene with Zagan you can leave this fight until you are at a higher level. I don't recall what level I was when I did this quest, but I didn't take any damage, so didn't even have to move until Zagan and his minions were all dead.

Are you using the equipment with +40% hit points and offence? You could try the piece with the defence bonus instead, but generally a higher offence is better, IMNSHO.

Do you have any dragon skill books that you have not read yet (ie from quests), which you could use to boost skills or learn new ones? What bonuses do you have from equipment?
The Dragon Shield skill can help (though ideally it is better to cast it before approaching a tough fight, when the time taken to cast it doesn't leave you vulnerable). Summon Friend can provide a distraction, but I'm not sure how much help it would be in a confined space.

Other than that, the techniques that work in DKS / D2:DC should also work in the original release of D2:ED - Zagan tips.

ok, I did as suggested in the other threads: kill the hives asap, then run off, turn human, heal up and save. This helped me get past this part. Thanks.
