I have a lvl 37 character and am thinking of going to the wastelands (if the place after banging the gong is called so) but first i want to be sure if i'm not making a mistake, so i ask for your opinions. Some things about my char: lvl 37 survivior (+5 for entering=lvl 42), lvl 5 meteorstrike, lvl 4 lightning, lvl 5 freeze(dam it seems almost useless since i discovered divine death..), lvl 3 demonic aid, lvl 1 err.. hardened skeletons, lvl 3 alchemy, lvl 5 know creature, lvl 5 sword mastery and other things, something from everything. All resistances are about 50 (once i had 114 to poison, what is the maximum?) About 750 vit. and 570 mana. Weapon: sword of chaos, 4 charmed, amulet is one for which the sword and dagger had to be sacrificed, also fully charmed(with very large charm bonuses), some 5 charm slot leggings with pretty high armor (i think it was about 270) etc. etc. So what do you think i should do? Oh yeah, almost forgot, reputation 39 (and not very up to completeing more quests. at least not many).
If you are in a sticky situation then the best tactic is to get out of it.

Your resistances are not very high, it could be that the dragonriders/demons give you a bad time. I had my resistances up to 200, specially spiritual res. (I'm a very defensive gamer ). There is NO maximum for res. You will be attacked by fire, lightning and freeze. Which armour/item is NOT charmed, how many slots are free? You can buy gold charms from Kroxy or get them by fighting the imps to boost up res.
Reputation is not important in the the Wastelands - but if you go there: No way back, so no completion of unfinished quests.
Your lvl is ok. Give it a try and make a different save before - if it does not work, you can reload, hm? As I said: I'm not sure if 50 res. is enough against dragonriders/demons - let alone the Big Baddies in the enddungeon. Kiya

Where and who is Kroxy (the name is familiar but i just don't remember...) I surely need more charm slots, i have 2 open in sword, 5 full in amulet and 5 full in leggings. But: if i first equip a shield with charms and then put on a 2 handed sword, will the shield's charms still work? And half of the charms are gold, half are white (which i have used). And i think i wouldn't have much money for gold charms, not more than 5 or 6

Kroxy, the Orc Council member, will be in the Wastelands after you arrive and meet Zandalor again - and there is a shaman, who sells stuff, too. Kroxy wants 50000 gp, the Shaman 100000. Again: you can find golden charms in fighting imps and they drop very good armour/weapons, too.
So, I gather you only have 2 charm slots to be filled with charms? Everything else is full? AFAIK you get the stats/qualities only if you equip something, but I never used a 2-hander. Always had 1-hander + shield. Taneko, there is a good Sword of the Gods in the Wastelands, if you reload patiently and wait for a 5-charm-weapon. This one is a 1-hander. Kiya

If you have a two handed sword equipped, you do not get any bonuses from a shield. Also, when you pick up a shield while carrying a two handed sword, the game will automatically equip (and disable) it. A few times after dropping off a bunch of loot and returning, I became encumbered rather fast, and then realized I forgot to drop of the shield that I had picked up and the game equipped for me.

Hi! I had a level 21 survivor with skills similar to yours but at a lower level, and managed to complete after ringing the gong at Level 21. So it can be done.
However, lower level characters will have a harder time, especially if you don't adopt some kind of cheesy tactics. Also, unfortunately, I share the view of many that the Wasteland is weak compared to the rest of the game--almost pure hack and slash (or sneak and slash in my case). If you are enjoying the game I wouldn't be in a hurry to move on, unless you are planning to replay and would like to have some new stuff remaining for your next game.
Good Luck whatever you do.

If you don't have the full Dragon Armour set, I would recommend getting it before ringing the gong.

Your spell selection is ok, but most enemies in the wasteland will be immune to elemental damage. Level 5 Deadly Discs takes care of that.

I am in the watelands now and seems to be too easy, should have entered earlier. I'm not going to learn the deadly dics, since i charmed all i could(and got pretty good stats too, all over 100), and i haven't seen any dangers there yet. Imps never do me damage (except for the 2000 hp chieftains) and for sand demons i summon a lvl 32 dreadknight and distract them with skeletal wall (only the sand devils are sometimes a problem, when they have about 4000(!) hp). I have another question: will i find any other quests then killing the black ring and the final boss?
--Edited--
And Kiya, most of the dragon riders and demons get bashed with my (super) sword of the gods which has 5 charms slots, 5 frost, 4 poison dam., 4 spi dam, 2 fire dam and lotsa bonuses.

Milking the wastelands for the sweet, sweet loot is essentially it's big use. Imp Chieftains drop very nice items, particularly mithril armor, and you can generate some very nice armor to "twink" your starting characters with, as mithril has no strength requirement. I'd bounce between Kroxy and an Imp Chieftain, Divine Deathing and ressurrecting the poor jerk, and then back and forth again. By the time I filled up the area with goodies to sell, Kroxy had gone on walkabout and refreshed his wares. So consider doing the wastelands for a while if you're interested in starting over; you can get really nice items from doing so. It becomes much less dull with that incentive in mind.
You will rue the day you opposed me! Begin your rueing! I'll just... sit over here... and watch.

The sword of the gods is in the wastelands, see God's Sword?!. Search the forum by keyword and use Dragon or Kiya's name, if you want to find a screenshot of something. EDIT: or just pay attention. Kiya already posted the link to that screenshot. That's the problem jumping to the new posts in a long thread.... you don't necessarily remember all the details from a day or two ago.
