Are you guys aware that Larian already warned many times that saves might not be update compatibles ? This is an alpha...
If you want to really help, create a brand new game, and then you can check for missing items.
And please ne also aware that hinting a wrong bug can be very time consumming, because it makes you look for something that doesnt exist. Please double check to avoid any waste of time and energy for larian.
Cromcrom, I'm well aware of potential compatibility issues between new updates and older saves. I think, perhaps, you have misunderstood the situation.
Prior to the 1.0.93 update there was a bug that was causing items to disappear after loading a saved game. If you spent any time on the forum earlier this week there were loads of people bringing this to the developers attention.
The 1.0.93 update was released to fix that problem. And it seemed to. But once the 1.0.95 update came out the following day I started running run into (what appears to be) the same old problem all over again.
The current saved game "disappearing items" problems I'm reporting (and I've made this clear at least a few time now in this thread, but apparently you missed that) are from a game that was created after the 1.0.95 patch was implemented, but prior to the release of the 1.0.99 patch (which was a day later). To put it more bluntly, the game was created on the 1.0.95 version of the client, and then subsequently discovered on the 1.0.95 version of the client. This is
not a case of an older save being incompatible with a new build, as you're incorrectly assuming and lecturing us about.
Does this problem persist in 1.0.99? I have no idea, as it's clearly hitting people with more randomness and less frequency than when it reared its head prior to the 1.0.93 update (and that is why I've offered my save-game files for analysis if the developers require them). I also know that the 1.0.99 patch was aimed specifically at fixing an unrelated problem and not this. So, I have no reason to believe the problem isn't still there since no new steps have been taken to correct it (other than the release of the 1.0.93 update which obviously has not fixed the problem 100% as originally believed).
Yes, if I have some more spare time I can start a new game in 1.0.99 and see if I run into this problem again. But based on the lack of reports coming from other players, I think it's safe to suggest the bug is harder to stumble across through play this time around. Frankly, I could play a hundred games on version 1.0.99 of the client and not run into it again. And to be perfectly honest, I don't have the free time for that sort of testing. What I do have is 8 consecutively created saved game files from 1.0.95 where items are missing from a multi-hour session - in a game created, played, and saved a day AFTER this bug was supposedly fixed.
Now, if
you really want to help, I would suggest that you not just trivialize or dismiss a reported problem simply because you haven't personally run into it, especially when someone is taking the time to present as much detail as possible in an effort to aid in getting to the bottom of a particularly nasty and game breaking bug. Nobody is going to want to play this game at release if there's a problem with saved games losing data.
