I know it's early alpha but I have noticed that, even though I run the game fine at max settings, that it fully loads my GPU. I'm wondering if their is going to be a DX11 version of the game? It seems a bit ancient to still go with a DX9 game in this day and age and afaik GPU's from 5 years ago support it, so I'm wondering if the devs think that there is actually a large enough portion that don't have DX11 support.

Interesting question. It's worth noting, though, that it's not at all uncommon for games trying to reach a large consumer base opt to use DX9 instead of 10 and 11 (or, they include it as a fall-back). But for something like Original Sin, a DX11 implementation could actually help to make the game run more efficiently on current hardware, given some of the lighting effects and so on included in the game, so I can't imagine they wouldn't add a DX11 mode at some point.

Eventually the game engine will support DX11 (and OpenGL4). During the kickstarter Larian said they would have to finish implementing them when they had the time. I don't know if they will get to it before release, but there are other post-release engine updates planned to support future projects (like real time combat).

I agree with the OP that a vast majority of players should have graphics cards that now support DX11. I think it came out in 2009 at some point. I know some people still use Windows XP though and that might pose an issue regarding the importance of DX11, but I feel as if this game would really benefit from a true DX11 executable. The game already looks great, but all the additional effects, it just makes me drool.

So, I hope that there is some real effort put into pushing out a DX11 client when the time is ready, I know many people would be thankful for that.
