certain enhancement will have requirements.

for example, to enhance the 'backstab' or 'silent kill' ability of a slashing weapon, one will need a serrated dagger of certain type & not just a butter knife or b*stard sword(too big & clumsy for silent kills).

this will make a lot of mini-dragon armour set quests.

note: some may need upgrades, either the whole item or certain part of the item. read: increase RAM size, HD size, at least win2K or winXP with latest patch. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

@Janggut

Imagine a quest that includes such a complexity that the hero must find an abandoned furnace, a coal mine, a mining pick, a leather back-bag, a meteor rock, a dwarf assistant, a smith’s hammer, a mallet, an anvil, a grinding stone-wheel, a cart-wheel, a big axel, a small axel, a saw, an ancient tree trunk, a carpenter’s shaping-axe, a sturdy dry bamboo stem, a very long rope, a tar pit, a tin bucket, a pair of leather gloves, a pair of blacksmith tweasers,a small tree trunk and a blacksmith workshop blueprint.

You need to apply the saw to the small tree trunk to make a foot wheel and to the bamboo stem to make a handle.
You then apply the big axel to the grinding stone-wheel and apply to the result the cart-wheel.
You then apply the axe to the ancient tree trunk followed by applying the saw to make a stand for the wheel assembly.
You put the wheels in there and apply the very long rope to make a belt and cover it with tar that you bring in the tin bucket from the tar pit.
You apply the small axel to the foot wheel and place it in the belt and into the ancient tree trunk stand and you have a grinding facility ready to use. Alternatively you could apply the small axle to the bamboo handle and fit it to the cart wheel and let the dwarf turn the wheel for you to grind.

You bring coal from the coal mine and put it in the furnace and you bring meteor rock pieces breaking it with the pick and carrying it in the leather back-bag.
You make fire and melt the meteor rock, then you wear your leather gloves and take the meteor melt with the tweezers and hammer it with the hammer on the anvil, then grind it, then heat it in the furnace, then hammer it again, then grind it once more and you have a very sharp sword ready for battle.

Now that is what I call Making Your Own Weapon.

that'll be the day if that is implemented! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/delight.gif" alt="" />

no more riftrunning, it's all about blacksmith!

however, a portion of that can be made into DD2 IF there is a path to become a blacksmith in singleplayer or in 'persistent world' multiplayer aspect one can play that role as well.

since lar said so much about total RPG experience, maybe it can happen minus the running around 2 get stuff/items(hopefully). maybe a robust trading system should be implemented plus being a blacksmith should have specialised advantages such as being able to forge weapons(ranging from common to rare to unique depending on skill level) from items brought in by other players. those players may or may not know the 'formula' to make the weapon but without the expertise that only blacksmith has, it's useless.

Well, you could say that a skill such as weapon repairing is connected to weapon making as well, although making a weapon is more professional and a higher level indeed. I was thinking that it could be a complete quest by its own right and while making and forging the weapon you gain strength and muscles as well as experience not based on killing.
The idea was to find the blue print first and by inspecting it now and then you can check your items list needed for construction.
You may not have that feeling yet, but making your weapon as a complete quest is very rewarding, especially when you try your own-made weapon on the first encounter after making it and find it to be very effective then you give it a name of your choice. To increase its wielding power though, you need to take the tin bucket and fill it with a dragon’s blood after slaying a dragon of course, and take that bucket of dragon’s blood back to your forge and heat your sword then quench it in the dragon’s blood and you double the wielding damage of your weapon. You could find a wild bore with great teeth and take the ivory for a fabulous handle that increases fencing and hit accuracy.

All such side quests are not a distraction from the main quest at all but it adds many optional hours of fun.

I am sure that it will be much more fun than killing a Shrimpo. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

Neocron, a nano-tech sci-fi MMORPG, had a good system. You had a portable factory. (That could easily be replaced with a stationary blacksmith's forge.) You could find blueprints which detailed the parts required to build something. Many parts were quite common (eg. scrap metal) but others were quite rare. You placed the blueprints and the materials in your factory, hit go, and several minutes later - pop - a new weapon/tool/armour! It's a bit like the Dragon Armour quest, but with many more designs and possibilities.

Yes indeed, that would be brilliant, but rather than hitting a go button we hit a Dwarven Butt. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

So after we finish assembling the forge we do not need to make every weapon but give the parts and the blueprint to the Dwarven assistant and he returns with the weapon a couple of days later.

I agree completely.

Throne of Darkness also had a nice weapon creation system. You used bits and pieces that were dropped from creatures that you killed, plus various treasure items and things you picked from the environment.

Welcome to the Forum, LeatherRaven LR Writer on <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

Bits and pieces that you've found Hmmm... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/think.gif" alt="" /> i like it!
plus various treasure items too! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
can we throw in some enchanted gems into the mix? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ouch.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
and this idea of course will be implemented
in the now famous up and coming <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> or perchance <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> 2?? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" />

Hi All,

Actually in Morrowind you could "Charm" some able weapons, Armour, rings and amulets exct, and then rename the Item to your liking. First you had to get a soulstone (lots of variations in quality).., and then when fighting a enemy cast the "gemfeeder" spell on them, if you then suceeded in killing the creature it's soul would be transfered to the soulgem, which is in actual fact then your charm. The bigger and badder the enemy killed and the quality of the soulstone in your posession determined the effect of the charm.

I think this could be a nice addition to the current charm system used in DD to compliment <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> and DD2.

Wrathchild.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> Then if you get six stones and a gauntlet you can be War-Lock and call it the Gauntlet of Eternity !!!
