This just needs to happen. You could do it in DD and in many other games. It just saves a lot of 'extra hand work' having to click on the 'x' or 'take all' buttons on the container, and makes it a lot easier to close empty crates quickly.

Just a request for something that I would like in the game, that I personally think is necessary. This feature does not exist already.

At least "Escape" to close works now.

You can right click anywhere on the container UI to close it, just not in the inventory slots (possibly because you can right click individual items to take them, and the item slots in the inventory also use right click to eat/drink/equip/read/open).
