The difference between Celeron and Pentium processors is in the cache memory,
processor pentium is more expensive because it have more cache memory and celeron have minus memory cache.

PIII 450 - Cache Memory - 512Kb

Celeron 466 - Cache Memory - 128 Kb

Or be, the celeron processor is weak against pentium processor just because they want, and is for who don't have money to buy a new pentium processor can buy a celeron processor.

This memory is the processor cache memory, don't has nothing to do with memory cache in motherboard.

If you see your stats of computer you'll see:

Cache Lvl 1
and
Cache Lvl 2

i didn't know celerons were still made <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
but i now th ebig difference between celerons and pentiums are the cach memory of the chipsets.
and second level cach.
it has something to do with the amound (speed) of data
processed at the sametime.

I don't now mutch about it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

The cache of motherboard isn't nothing to compare the processor, what is valid is just the cache of the processor.

Difference in speed, the new processor come with more instructions or they are controled by the operational systens, the new pentiuns com with HT(Hyper Threading) simulation of two numeric processor increasing the velocity, but some comparations with AMD Athlon say the Pentium processor lost in some qualitys, the advantage of pentium processor is if your cooler crash you have the chance to don't lost your processor and AMD processor well the processor start to go to high temperature and crash with the cooler.

The principal implement is the transistors in the processor to increase the speed well i have to go now. Bye.

Ah yeah, one thing what have big influence is your quantity of Memory RAM, more memory more space to the processor use the informations with more agility.

How the name say the access to the memory is random, so the processor have a registrator with instructions to guess what will be what you'll access in the memory, bye bye. now i really have to go.

Eumm yes ... I understand the difference in cache memory ... so it's bad to have little cache momory? (like you really can't play the "new" games these days ?

The cache memory is an important factor for the processor but is better if you have a balanced configuration for new games.

Something like:

Good and fast processor to do the arithmetic and other operations

A good video card with own processor and memory, this is what give the great part of the "thing" for the game.

Thing - operations and design of graphics.

And a good quantity of memory for swap(right? changes) of files.

let's not forget a good soundcard will contribute a lot to system performance. try the crappy built-in soundchip versus creative vibra 64/128, & it actually accelerates your games. if u get yourself a new soundblaster card, the sound acceleration is even better, making overall system performance improve considerably.

regarding pentium & celeron, celeron's like pentium without accessories. the old generation celerons are pure crap but the new ones are ok. look out for certain speeds as some are good for overclocking. that is if u are interested in that. but if u don't know what i'm talking about, then my guess is that O/C is not for u. plus it's hazardous.

extra info; if u happen to use Win98/Me, u can always enable a switch in the registry that allows windows to make full use of your RAM space before resorting to hard disk for swap files. that way, for those with at least 128MB of RAM, u won't hear that blasted HD making noise anymore, that is until u start loading stuff from it. & that's one of the major factors that make me stick with the so-called crappy win98/Me. i'm a tweaker.
