Hi,
I'm not sure if this was discussed but I just wanted to know. Would people like the idea of continuing a game even after they've won by completing the last quest?
Thanks.

Yes. And I think it will be possible with battlegrounds! I would love to be able to continue playing the game after the storyline.

it was discussed.... somewhere?? ...
but yes, would be good but.....what would you do....roam the land looking for?...what? I guess you could rob every book, weapon, potion, gem, plant, vase, barrel, chest, and any piece of furniture that isn't tied down, and pack it all to Stormfist....or wherever.. (that would probably keep you busy for a while )
there you could be the ruler of a land, where there is never any trouble, or quests to solve, nobody's sick or hungry, and they all live happily ever after... Ahhhh, what an ideal world! but no challenge

I think he meant more to finish off side quests after the main story line is done, or just to wander around and get congratulated or catch up on what happened to the various NPCs. With the battlegrounds, you would have re-spawning monsters and still a better plot than Diablo, even if it is randomly generated.

why not? lockmar's idea of continuity even after the main quests are completed is good. heck, if larian makes RRR mod-friendly, modders can create new quests in the battleground & we get to continue with our character(s).
if larian allows modders to change the 'main world' which main quests reside, then we can even create non-violent mods: whodunit, mini games, etc... .
lockmar's 2 cents multiplying.....

Hey! Didn't think of mods! The beardy guy's right, since RR has 3D characters, it can be easier to mod it than DD. Good idea, juggut

monsters are needed only if the mod's all about monster-killing. if that is all, i won't be downloading it. what i am interested is that mods have more potential than just another spawn of monster killing fest. imagine we have another adventure, one without violence. throw in mysteries, & strange happenings that players have to find out why & on & on .... . so many possibilities. anybody played GROM? it's some kind of RPG with rudimentary stat building with lots of fun, at least for me. it has many mini-games which i like. key word is FUN.

GROM? A polish game, if I am not mistaken. I will be glad to play some mystery mod... Maybe there will be a forum modding team :0)?

if the tools are available, why not? larian has to support the effort by allowing gamers to mod then we can do it to our hearts' content.

What mods? As the editors won't be publicly available, who will go through the effort of reverse engineering everything to be able to create a mod?

Moding tools may be released for D2, but are unlikely to be for Riftrunner (according to one of the interviews).

Nope, I was just making clear again that there will be no editors for Riftrunner (as it stands now) and as such there will not be any mods either. it was a general statement

thanks for the clarification, myrthos.
regarding 'game over' issue, if we are to continue after completion of the main quests, it'll be only for pursuing side quests which some may/should be affected by the main quests. this means a number of the side quests may/should be broken as i feel side quests with no relation, even a bit, to the main quests is very detached, too detached from the main game which is RRR/DD2/whatever. one quest has to have a basic relation to the other to have some kind of connection which will enrich the overall game experience.

or maybe a joint 'co-operation' of some programmers on this forum to find the structure of the data files and how to add content,... like DAD did with the Item editor, Izikarion with the save editor.

Why not do this simpler and ask the Larians if you can use the editors, sign some documents, including NDA and to make sure that they are not responsible for what you make or break and maybe spend a day or two in their studio for a quick course on how to use it. In that way those who are really interested get a chance to make a mod and we all know that the lifetime of a game is increased big time when mods are being made for it.

Yes ! I often whished I could wander around in a game after it has been "finished".
After completing a quest, I often talked to NPCs in and often got some kind of "congratulatuion" or a similar remark.
I could imagine something like that for a time *after* a game (so to say) - just meeting NPCs again, and listen to what they say ("you are now ready, aren't you ? Having saved the world again, heh ? Well, I've got a Quest for you - could he please help me milking the cows in my stables ?")
