First off, this game has the potential to be one of the best RPG of all time. Really looking forward to playing the full game and creating custom content.

I would like to suggest something to the developers as a veteran gamer...

The current Class selection is bland and not very appealing.

The first thing I do when rolling a new character in D:OS is un-assign all points and pick my own. The only thing that currently matters about the classes are the 3 starting skills. I would like to see one extra ability point assigned to each class that cannot be removed. Leveling this up further would start with a cost of one, just like it does after adding a talent.

I love the open-endedness of the character design, but I want to suggest that the game be released with at least 12 starting classes. My list below contains 28 completely unique classes.

Here are the pros and cons...

PROs :

- Implementation. My system uses 100% of code and design that already exist in the game. Correct me if I am wrong, but this should not be terribly difficult to implement. There is really no need to have unique starting gear or a custom look at the start.

- Theme/Fun - Having 28 unique characters to pick from is incredibly appealing to me personally, I'm sure other RPGers would agree. I'm sick to death of the standard Fighter/Mage/Thief that appears in virtually every single game on the market. I also think that having a ton of classes fits into your game nicely because of your current ability/class/talent system and the overall flavor of the game.

- Marketing. When looking for games to play I hardly ever see anything that boast 12+ character classes. This is a huge head-turner for people looking at a games feature set, especially something like 28 classes.

- Character Development. This system creates a unique class that has an advantage over all other classes in a specific ability. This is really cool from a player's perspective and ensures that a player really likes and enjoys his character as it progresses. This is so important for a game to be considered top-tier of the genre. To quote Seinfeld: People MUST love the characters.

CONs:

- Possibly Overwhelming. With the current user interface, it may be overwhelming to some players to have to scroll through 28 classes one by one. This doesn't bother me, nor would it be likely to bother any pen and paper player.

Please let me know your thoughts....

I believe you mistake "free ability points" with them having selected talents that improve abilities by a single point.

Note that things like "Tinkerer" add +1 to crafting, and things like this. This is likely where those alleged "free points" are coming from.

Thanks Youngfreshnewbie, I see how that works now. I'll have to update my original post.

EDIT: I've updated the post and chart with instead only having a single free point to start with, not counting the talents. This way the classes are still unique.

U know u can make all these anytime u want with assigning points wherever u want. I dont see the need for all this work tbh, i would rather see them work on some imo more important things mentioned in bug reports and setting the right balance.

This list u made reminds me alot on background selections u could do in Neverwinter Nights 2, which was a nice feature, but on the long run more or less useless.

Yeah, I tend to agree Fanest. I didn't understand the way the talents were working, which seemed to be causing an imbalance. I think giving us the ability to customize the class name and portrait would be enough. I'm just really tired of Fighter Mage Thief Cleric I guess. The fact that they put in a "Survivor" class gives me a lot of hope, even though it is just a name.

It may be correct that you can make any of these classes all on your own, but I'm sure Larian doesn't mind someone going to the trouble to make up a bunch of examples - even if the truckload of new skills coming soon means that the skill loadout has a lot more options.
