Here's another question: Are character levels pre-determined, meaning that they are part of a [finite] chart the developers built into the game? If not, does the program instead use a formula to determine the amount of experience required to reach the next level?

The experience required for each level is;

E = 1000*(level^3 - level)/3

see Wisdom - is it worth the skill points?

The experience gained from monsters is proportional to the difference in levels (if you are much higher, you get less experience) and monsters do not respawn, so there is an effective maximum level of about 55, assuming you do not cheat or run into a bug with Experience Bombs. Most people finish the game with a character level in the mid forties to low fifties.
You can Resurrect a creature, run/teleport away so it turns hostile, return and kill it again to get more experience, but this could get boring fast.

I had seen that post, which was the reason why I'd asked the question. This is not related to maximum statistics per se, but to the maximum level of the character as a whole, i.e. Level 50 or Level 60.

To clarify, let's say that my character kills and resurrects enemies, then kills them again. This would give her more experience than if she were to kill them and proceed through the game as usual. Because she has killed additional enemies - for the sake of argument - she reaches levels beyond what is normally possible. That said, would the experience requirements for those 'extra' levels be contained in a finite table the developers built into the game or would the game use a formula to determine the number of points needed for each successive increase in level?

Put another way, is the number of levels finite or infinite? Has anyone taken the time to find an upper bound for characters' experience levels?

Raze,

Thanks for the excellent link/information. I added my post and then saw that you'd already responded. Thanks again!
