I have some problems (much like everyone else) with DD, and some questions...
1. I searched and found an old thread about this problem, however it didn't seem like anyone had solved it. When I went to the Dark Forest the first time the map was completely cleared (no fog). As you can guess this is no fun, I know exactly where to go and can't do any exploring...
2. The popular missing sun rise/set problem, has anyone found a way to fix this yet? I couldn't find any solutions on this forum.
3. Is there a way to skip the intro movies? They're really annoying and make DD take a long time to load.
4. What does the alphabit option do?
Howpefully someone will be able to answer at least one of these

I have some problems (much like everyone else) with DD, and some questions... N00bs, you mean. 1. I searched and found an old thread about this problem, however it didn't seem like anyone had solved it. When I went to the Dark Forest the first time the map was completely cleared (no fog). As you can guess this is no fun, I know exactly where to go and can't do any exploring... You might have a very high level of Elven Sight or Ranger's Sight or you wear some magical item which gives you bonuses. Anyway, it's MAP or MINIMAP? 2. The popular missing sun rise/set problem, has anyone found a way to fix this yet? I couldn't find any solutions on this forum. Nothing I found worked for me. 3. Is there a way to skip the intro movies? They're really annoying and make DD take a long time to load. THEY have nothing to do with DD loading times. One thing, you can skip them by pressing spacebar or esc and another thing that after you start a game, you don't see the actual intro movie. 4. What does the alphabit option do? The alphabet was one of the early man's greatest discoveries. It allowed people to communicate by written, write books, notes, HTML code (on clay tablets, of course)... It was what moved the civilization. Without even numbers you could write how much money you owned "that Fred 2 houses/igloos/huts/caves from here". You could also make notes to stick on prehistoric refrigirators. So as you seel, it's pretty important! I mean you're using the alphabet to post here. Howpefully someone will be able to answer at least one of these Wonderful, hope is the last feeling to dissolve.

See; Revealing maps. Did you try reinstalling Divinity? Zip or otherwise backup your saved games folder to another location first, just in case. Then un-install, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs (especially anti-virus), re-install the game, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, install the patch, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, start the game. This procedure is a bit over-cautious, but the best way to avoid install problems. AFAIK the dawn/dusk effect can be gained/lost by re-installing the game or by installing a patch. Maybe if you reinstall for the first problem, you will end up with it working. The 'Use AlphaBit' option presumably uses a more compatible, though probably slower, rendering technique. The alpha channel/bit is used in some graphics and 3D rendering as the transparency of that pixel, though I don't know if the meaning is the same in this context. BTW DATD, I think you are taking your alignment way too seriously.

No comment... You might have a very high level of Elven Sight or Ranger's Sight or you wear some magical item which gives you bonuses. Anyway, it's MAP or MINIMAP? No, I have never visited this area before and the whole thing is cleared (the full map, not minimap). Anyways, it doesn't matter anymore because I fixed it myself! All I had to do was replace the "\Run\savegames\quicksave.1\shroud.x2" file with the "\Run\main\startup.v2\shroud.x2" file. THEY have nothing to do with DD loading times. One thing, you can skip them by pressing spacebar or esc and another thing that after you start a game, you don't see the actual intro movie. No I don't mean the loading screen, it takes my computer about 10 seconds to read the cd and play the movies (I'm talking about the company logos movies, not the DD intro movie). You may think '10 seconds isn't very long' but it is when you start DD many times over and over again... The alphabet was one of the early man's greatest discoveries. It allowed people to communicate by written, write books, notes, HTML code (on clay tablets, of course)... It was what moved the civilization. Oh, a smartass huh? Raze, thanks I guess I'll try reinstalling...

Yeah, 10 secs is big enough . No idea, sorry

To skip intro just left click on the mouse. It works for me.

It's not extremely important, it was worth asking though...

Ok I think I have fixed the missing sun rise and set problem! Awhile ago (before I made this thread) I was searching these forums for answers, I found this thread. MatWic suggests adding "splotchproblem 0" to the config.lcl file. I had tried this and it didn't do anything, so following Raze's advice I re-install DD and the patches. That didn't work and I was getting desperate so I went back in the config.lcl file, I noticed I had added "splotchproblem 0" to the bottom so I tried moving it to the top...when I ran DD it crashed after the first loading screen. Interesting...this means it matters where the line is placed, so I pasted "splotchproblem 0" in between all the current lines (not on the top however). Now I get the sun rises and sun sets! My config.lcl file looks like this inside (don't copy and paste it, you will have different options set than I do): width 1024 splotchproblem 0 height 768 splotchproblem 0 game rate 100 fps splotchproblem 0 music 1 splotchproblem 0 smooth 1 splotchproblem 0 ztunnel 1 splotchproblem 0 memory limit 256 splotchproblem 0 use8bitfont 1 splotchproblem 0 quickstart "on" splotchproblem 0 images compressed splotchproblem 0 flat files splotchproblem 0 language 1 splotchproblem 0
I hope this will work for some of you!

Did you hit enter after adding "splotchproblem 0" to the end of the file? The game is expecting the last line to be blank, so will not recognize the addition if you do not hit enter after it, or put it before one of the other lines (but not the first, apparently).

the only difference between that config above and mine is memory limit=32 and game rate=40 i get no crashes, and have sunrise/set as well!
now raze why would my mem limit be set at 32?

now raze why would my mem limit be set at 32? Because I changed those two values on my game I haven't noticed a differences yet. The frame rate didn't change and I assumed memory limit was ram, I have way more than 32 so I figures I'd give it a little bit more. I'm glad your sun is working correctly now

I did, and it fixed dawn/dusk effect.
I had this problem when I first installed the game, but it was not abrupt enough that I figured it was a bug. With the hotfix, and later the patch, I got a more gradual effect. I recently re-installed Divinity to test something under v1.29 then installed the patch, and was back to a very short dawn/dusk. Adding "splotchproblem 0" to the end of the config.lcl (and hitting enter) fixed it.
