I've seen a number of walkthroughs and several guides that lay out and explain the benefits of all the skills, but none make stat build recommendations or speak to the relative effectiveness of the various skills. Are there any?
I have no problem customizing my guy the way I see fit and as I prefer, but I would like to get some sense of which skills are particularly useful and which are not.
So far I've been very conservative with my stat and skill points. I started with a warrior since I thought that the spin attack was the most useful of the special moves. This gave me augment damage (always good, I imagine) and some sword expertise, which I may or may not use depending on the weapons I find. I took a rank in Freeze, which I thought would be great, but has proven thus far to be near useless (perhaps because undead might be nearly immune, plus I got the impression that it was supposed to do some cold damage, and even when it did work, I saw no damage applied). I also took a rank in lockpick, since it seems like a good idea to be able to get into locked chests and through doors for loot, etc. I took one in augment defense, since boosting all armor felt like a particularly good idea for warriors. Finally, I spent a point on enchant weapon, since charms have been recommended. Restoration, which has proven very useful, I received for free for completing a quest. I still have a number of skill points remaining (at least 3 or 4).
As for stats, I've only spent points on strength thus far, 20, for a total of 35. Since I think I am around level 7 or 8 now, that leaves me with around 20/25 still to spend. So everything except strength is still 10.
Initially, my idea was to be a melee player enhanced with some ranged magic, with a few cool survivor skills, like poison weapon and lay trap thrown in. I am not at all sure this is practical or effective, or a complete waste of time.
Links to guides that speak to the effectiveness of certain skills and/or solid character build strategies would be greatly appreciated. Any advice would be as well.
