The game gives me the impression that you can choose from among the poisons you have accumulated to poison your weapon with that skill. However, I have not found any way to select which poison you can use. I have both normal and minor poison in my inventory at present and it simply seems to default. I'd like to be able to tailor which I use according to the strength of the enemy I am facing.

Can it be done? Does anyone know how? I would have thought it would work like deadly gift, where you can select which trap you wish to set.

I thought it did to! hmm. problem. tactics.

ah. I've been enlightened, I have no clue.

I think that the name just depends on the size. so all poisons the same, the super poison is just more poison so it takes longer to ware off.

Skin of poison, click here

Out of the link from Locusinn:
A trick much-used by assassins. Coats your body in a poisonous salve bringing damage to any that strike you. Attackers using melee weapons suffer poison damage. To apply poison to your skin, you need to have poison in your inventory.[color:"yellow"]If you have more than one type of poison in your inventory, you will need to select which poison you want to apply to your skin. Once you've done that, you can keep on applying poison to yourself for as long as you have poison of the type you selected by clicking your right mouse

This skill makes a difference by using different potion sizes, but you can only poison your skin.

ELB, am I correct in thinking you are asking for help with the survivor skill "poison weapon", and not the warrior skill "poison damage"?

If so, the skill description implies that you can choose different poison strengths:

"Putting poison on a weapon yields X amount of poison charges. Strength of poison depends on the type of poison used. Poison effects are not accumulative"

Or at least it implies that different strengths can be used. It may very well default to the strongest poison potion you have.

Indeed, you can, but it is not a friendly method.
Firstly, you need to “guess” merely by logic at which poison is a stronger one.
In my humble opinion, poison from mushrooms is widely accepted to be the most potent especially those found underground in caves or dungeons. You may not find such mushrooms around you when you need it desperately but you could find garbage from which a lesser potent poison could be extracted.
Your inventory shall keep each poison type separated from the others and you may not find a number increment attached to the same size of flask.
When you select the “poison weapon” skill to apply it to the currently equipped weapon, the game takes the first poison it finds in the queue, which you could verify on any trade interface. Therefore, put away all the poison you do not want to use out of your inventory and then select the one that you wish to use first followed by the others or not until you poison your weapon. This is not a good thing to do during battle so be prepared.
On the other hand, you may wish to throw garbage poison at your foes as the flask breaks on ground and they start twitching, which delays them dramatically while wield your weapon at them.
Good luck.

LocusInn about poison weapon/Survivor:
Create even more pain for your opponents by applying poison to your weapons. To poison your weapon you first need to have poison in your inventory. [color:"yellow"]There are different types of poison in Divine Divinity, and if you have more than one poisonous potion, you will need to select which poison you want to apply to your weapon. To apply poison to your weapon, select the poison weapon skill as your active skill, if applicable select the poison you wish to use, and then right click again to poison your weapon. Each time you hit an enemy with a poisoned weapon, it will lose some of the poison until eventually there is no poison left. To apply more poison to the weapon, simply right click again. You will be able to do this for as long as you have poison in your inventory

My guess in the skill Flixerflax mentioned is more the potion size (minor, normal, super), as poison does not have different colours.
