In my first run through the beginning of Divine Divinity, I found a spider statuette in the catacombs. Since the Slasher quest bugged and I wanted to assign a skill and some stat points differently, I restarted. Now, all is well, but I noted that I didn't pick up the spider statuette this time around. Did I miss it? Should I go back and look for it? Or is it a random drop and I just lucked out when I found it the first time?
I realize that it is hardly essential, but it might come in handy for spying in some areas (getting a heads up on what's ahead). Plus, I heard it sells for a fair amount if nothing else.
So... always in catacombs (then where, if always in the same place?), or random drop?

Unfortunelty - or not so - whichever way you look at it, almost all things like that are random. You will find them other places though, i think i found 3 in my game. Weapons will be random as well, so if you don't like what you have, re-load, you may get something better!

Almost everything in DD is a random drop. You're lucky to find the statue so early yet unlucky to lose it. Don't worry it only turns you into the animal on the statue. Somewhat useful.

So far I've found 4 statuettes and they are so darn useful: Spider: spying Frog: Travelling (little guy just moves so fast) Cat: Rat hunting (soon all of Rivellon will be clear of those nasty things) Bee: Actually not a bee but beetle, great for pulling guards out of place and ticking off guards. Haven't beat them back to the entrance of Stormfist yet though.
For myself I would say statues are invaluable as they are not only cool but useful for above reasons and so many more. Some monsters will not aggro you in this new form, while some friends may. Though please note that you do not keep you hitpoints or resistances when in your temporary form. And finally don't buy one, you'll find a few sooner or later.

Hmm four statues eh? I really wish the bee one was a bee and not a beetle. That would be alot more fun.

That beetle statue is one of a kind. There is only one in the game. If you want to know where it is, let me know. I dont want to spoil the fun yet .

but the curious thing is there is no tree branch around at all. Do I have to talk to the summoner lady before it comes available?

Yes, Jezza, you have to get the quest for the branch first (Corinna) Kiya
And get the quest to retrieve a plant from the alchemist/Dark Forest first also, please. If you kill the tree too early, you'll miss it.
