When Using Water shield I gain:

50+ Water resistance
50- Fire resistance

That means I catch fire easier and resist water based attacks... Should be the other way around. Wouldn't it make more sense to be more prone to freezing and water damage and immune or near immune to fire? I am covered in Water after all.

Not sure if this happens to the other shields or not.
Also at least Earth Shield has a chance to inflict poison when attacked, Water shield doesn't seem to cause any negative effects.

That's how rain works, so yeah, they probably got the effects missed up if they are ingame like you say they are...

It may be intended as a shield against water. The Cold school gets "Burning immunity", and the fire school gets "Freezing immunity", so I think this is a way for a water elementalist to get protection vs. water without having to also spec into fire.

Doesn't quite match the OP's description that it covers the caster in water as animation/effect (I don't know, never tried the spell)

It's a water spell that cover the player in water. Immune to freezing, freeze on contact. I tested to see if it was just a bug in the description but I indeed catch fire easily when using it. What I think happened is that devs designed a water spell but assigned its stats as an ice shield. If it were ice it would make more sense to be weak to fire.

Though the addition of other riders means they aren't as bad as the pure zero-sum of previous versions, I don't like the "you become resistant to one thing and weak to another" aspect of those spells - it makes them more of a liability than a benefit in many cases and they're rarely a good use of APs vs just taking out the source of the damage or applying status effects/zones/blocking summons to make them irrelevant.

How often are you attacked by both water and fire wielding enemies at the same time? I will say that up until now I have not found a good use for the shields, mainly because they were bugged and set your health to 24% of your max instead of 124%.

Actually, I believe that was just a cosmetic issue; the shield HP was shown, without indicating that was in addition to your normal hit points (when it hit zero the display switched back to your regular HP).
