I haven't played DOS a ton yet (brief loom during alpha just to satisfy my curiosity, then about 10-12 hrs of the first beta build). I am intersted in playing a well rounded, classic thief (switch between daggers in combat, sneak, pick locks, blow up traps, some crafting for arrows) and a bit of a generalized caster (maybe light specialization in fire/earth) for my main chars. My question is ...is trying to make a char not specialized in a single area going to gimp my party? Can I get away with a more generalized build?

Thanks

Havn't played DOS yet, but in former larian games you could do well rounded characters. They were, in my opinion, even stronger.

Far as I can tell, specialized chars are just plain stronger, but it doesn't mean you can't get by with a jack of all trades. It'll be harder, certainly tactically challenging, but not impossible.

Unless otherwise specified, just an opinion or simple curiosity.

Hybrid characters are definitely more of a challenge to build, both in terms of attribute spread and ability spread. It's still up in the air if the diversity will make for a stronger or weaker character.

Thanks for the thoughts. I don't really feel thatbwhat I'm after really qualifies as hybrid characters, just not super specialized...regular old mage instead of pyromancer, thief instead of backstabbing, dagger user. Kinda wish that the combat and non-combat abilities had different point pools.
