Hi there,

first post from me and I have to say it is a great game so far. Really enjoying it.

But I don't like the way weapons are handled. In baldurs gate, take a two handed sword for example, it is one of the most powerful weapons right from the start. It does 4-12 damage or something. This is only adjusted by the strength of the character and/or by magic.

In DOS it feels like the first weapon you get is a mere rock and not a sword, because a few hours in the game you'll find a weapon that does 10 times the damage.

And the first thing you do after you level up, is to hit the shops to get new gear. This is rather lame.

So my questions:

Why is the damage dependent on the weapon and not on the strength or dexterity of the character?

Is there a most powerful weapon in the game? And if so can I get it early on in the game? Or will it depend on the current character level?

For example baldurs gate2 where there is a quest with a red dragon to get one of the most powerful weapons. You are free to try it early on but it will be very hard. Or do it later and it will be a little bit easier. This kind of balance/freedom is what I am looking for in a rpg.

This isn't an ARPG, but there are games entirely devoted to killing monsters to upgrade your equipment so you can kill more monsters to upgrade your equipment. In D:OS, and the earlier Divinity games, equipment upgrades are part of developing your character.

In one of the latest kickstarter videos it was said that crossbows were the, or one of the, most powerful weapons in the game, and the most powerful crossbow in the game could be made by crafting (multiple steps). I would assume you'd need a high level of crafting for that crossbow, but you can meet the requirements for crossbows early in the game.

After you get to the first town, you are free to continue on completely unprepared, and with a little luck and a good strategy you can even survive. If not, there is lots of stuff to do within Cyseal, party members to recruit, etc.

Beta forum topic may be ?

Seggor, could you write some numbers of weapons you found please ? Especially AP needed for a blow, damage range, (min-max) so we can do some math please.

Yes I know, but currently it feels like one.

What I mean is, how can a sword do 10-20 damage and a few hours in you'll find weapons that do 90-160? Logic is lost here.

Even if you find something good, Esmeralda will always have something better. And this bugs me.
