Hey all,

I was wondering when an item' stats are determined?

Is it when you pick it up or identify it, or someother time?

I'm wonderinging becaue i often see on the boards that people will go back to an earlier savegame to get better stats on a weapon. But when should I save to d this?

Thanks in advanced.

Oh and another question. Can Merchants fill there stock? IE: can i sell a merchant too much stuff so he can't get any new stuff in for me to buy???

Thanks all

CorwinJovi

Identify does it: if you have a high identify skill, running with your mouse over it identifies. Let's say you open a cupboard, the weapon in there is accidently where your mouse cursor is: identified = stats are fix, saving after that = useless.

Merchants fill up after some time (AFAIK 1-2 days)

pressing the alt key can also identify it. I killed pedro and wnated to see where the thugs dropped the gold, boom the singing blade was identified. Poor pedro, had to kill him again

On the other hand if your identify isn't high enough item's stats seems to be determined when it is dropped. I have quicksaved and IDed things after they have dropped and the stats never change. Going back before they were found and re-IDing them and the stats will change.

Hitting alt, moving a chest/item or running your mouse over it will set the item's properties, even if you do not have Identify at a high enough level to see the description. Hitting alt, running your mouse over, or talking to an NPC will set their inventory, assuming you have been away long enough for it to have changed from your last encounter (usually about 10-15 min real time).

Thanks, Raze. You know everything.

Does the level effect the stats you can get? For example, the armorer in the merchants area has a plate mail armor in the armor case. Would the stats on that be better if my warrior waited until she was a higher level to open the case and then ID it?

The stats you can get are somewhat dependant on level. The higher the level, the better the chance you have of getting stats in the upper range for that item. Someone else posted this in the old forum; Ariana confirmed it when trying for the lowest possible finish (in the wastelands at level 17).

If you are level 15 and wait til level 30, you will probably have an easier time getting good stats. If you waited til level 50, I doubt there would be much difference compared to level 30. I have not done any experimenting to test the actual values, or tried to see how many levels you would have to wait to make a significant difference.

Of course if you wait, you will need to make sure not to accidentally run your mouse over the armour case or hit the alt key. By the time you get to a higher level, you will probably have found (or had a monster drop) something just as good.

Agree with Raze on previous one... u can't even get over closed chest with the mouse pointer -> it locks the inventory of that chest (i.e. u must save before talking with someone or before going with cursor over chest or cupboard or tiny little second before u kill someone...).Belive me... My first post proves it

My weapons...

As for "Does level effect that?" question, I think its not. Let me explain...
When I found out that in elves camp guy have good bows( i love them in the beggining of any RPG) I went straight to him and after lot of reloading I got a bow from link above and best armor in hole game till the end(550 AC)...And I was very low level...

Thats my 2 cents
