I'm happy playing a single character. I prefer that, it's a lot more personal then. I'll play The Sims if I want a party. I'm not too fussed about the story so long as it's good enough to keep me going. It's unusual for me to say something like that, but I want it for the characterisation and gameplay more than anything. I pulled Diablo II out again last night because I have the desperate urge to really build a character. (And Alex has my Divine Divinity discs. ) I tried Nethack for a while, but the character development is automatic and has no player input.
I'm getting more and more enticed to buy the first two Neverwinter Nights sets. Let's see how long Diablo II keeps me occupied...

Playing 3D Studio Max. I assure you that it's one of the best and the worst 3d games ever (best, because you can do anything with it. worst, because the 'creator' is me )

From what I've heard, Baldur's Gate. It's a bit older than NWN, but I've played BGII and ToB, and trust me - it's good! As for NWN I've heard the plot is full of holes... but you have the mods of course...

BG 1 should be relatively chaep today - cheaper than NWN, which is somewhat younger.

Good luck Lucretia, let us know what you think.
BG 2 is a fantastic game. BG 1 is good too.......its just that I bought into the hype and was let down. BG 2 is what I hoped BG 1 would be.

Thnx for the advice Well if you have any questions in regards to BG (1 or 2) don't hessitate to ask or pm me since I must have played it at least as many times as DAD has played and I am sure to be pleased to help you in the least"spoiler" like fashion

It depends. Some people prefer BG1's story, but I have to say that I like BG2 too. Hmm... maybe I'll finish those additional WC3 Frozen Throne acts and play BG2 with Frozen Throne: I never finished Throne of Bhaal anyway!

I preferred BG 1 + Addon, played it 3x - BG 2 + Addon only 2x. I like RPG without love stories. Imoen was cheekier, more alive in BG1 than in 2. I missed Khalid and Dynaheir in BG 2 - so my troop was not nearly the same as in BG 1. As I had developed strong emotions for my little troop in BG 1, I had a greater distance to those in BG 2.
Guess, this was my problem: too high attachment to my chars in the first game. Kiya
