I saw in the recent patch notes they said they implemented a way to do so. Anyone find out how or where?

You can change your characters' appearance in a room opened up at the end of time. Don't know if that extends to changing stats/abilities/etc.

All you can do is appearance. Well, and gender.

But not name or stats.

Not sure how I feel about being able to respec. It would definitely be convenient and make things easier, but I kind of enjoy having to choose your advancements carefully.

Would kind of be nice if you could respec the companions for now, as it feels redundant to make a water mage or 2h warrior when Jehan and Madora are the only companions available.

I think when you change appearance of a character The gender that the choose in the beginning should be the same and unchangeable when your doing appearance changing it just seems kinda weird to have that feature....

Dragon Age 2 had that feature but you can change the appearance but not the sex...

Resetting your character stats would be way too over powering in this game. A major challenge is to figure out how to smartly build a good strong character.

You get 4 party members. Each one is suppose to be made in a manner that you can do anything that is needed. Like having a theif to pick pocket and lock pick, etc.

Every time there I run into trouble on the road, there is always a dwarf at the bottom of it. Don't they know how to drive above ground?

...open-ended game...

...absolute statements about what characters are supposed to be or not be...

I dunno. You play the thing so it works for you, and I'll do the same, hey?

If one of the available options feels weird to you, don't do that then.

Power-character design is potentially unbalancing. If you don't want to play unbalanced, don't do that either.

Neither of those is hard, and you aren't telling other people what they can or can't do with the game *they* bought.

If you don't ever want to risk maybe ending up with an unbalanced character and having to play like that, then a beta of an open-ended game seems like kind of an odd choice to me. But whatever works for you.

In any event, right now you can't respec, you can just change your appearance if you're tired of staring at the avatar you started with.

Respeccing the hirelings isn't something I personally need: I'm guessing there will be more than two in the full game, they seem to have strong characterization, and it's just part of the story to work with them.

But if Larian decides to add that option, well, I don't have to use it, do I? So whatever, really.

And once the ability to mod this puppy kicks in? You can do whatever you want with this whole issue anyway.

respeccing should be in the game. it adds to this exploration flavour. and be honest: if larian does not add it someone else will soonish via a save game editor. there is almost no rpg-ish game without one.

While it's always entertaining to debate things, keep in mind a re-spec option was advertised as a feature during the Kickstarter campaign.

"Can I re-spec my character?

You will be able to re-spec your character by training, but it will cost you. A lot. It also depends on the difficulty level at some levels, you cant."

I think some of you are taking your early access for granted. New players coming into this game aren't going to have the same knowledge of this game's mechanics that the rest of us possess thanks our time spent in the alpha/beta/forums.

And, to be fair, Divinity : OS doesn't do the greatest job in the world when it comes to explaining its character systems in-game.

In the end, it stinks to be stuck with a build that was created out of a lack of understanding of the finer points of the game (once you understand how the systems work). And not everyone is going to want to go through the earlier parts of this game multiple times just to get things right. I would argue that's actually the worst way to experience a story.

There's another game I play (Blackguards) where I invested a lot of points into a skill that had the potential to be cool but ended up being poorly executed. And, unfortunately, the developers don't seem to be interested in fixing it. Those points are just gone and wasted, and my character is always going to less effective than I could have made him (had I known better) because of it. It wasn't that I chose poorly, I just chose a skill that was implemented poorly. Why should I feel permanently punished for that? A re-spec option in that game would have helped there, because I'm well over halfway through the game and not interested in restarting.

As long as it's properly balanced so players aren't opting for a re-spec every other encounter, there's no problem with offering one for the players who need it.
