I ordered the CE today at Amazon.de. Is it possible to play the beta now or is this only for users who bought on Steam?

I'm not sure, but you probably can't play the beta. However, the full release is in 23 days, and beta saved games are not going to be compatible with the final version, if that's any consolation.

I have the CE on order from another supplier as well; I have contacted Customer Support and sent them a copy of my payment details to see if I can get a beta key - I'll report back if I have any luck.

Yes, even 10 days seems like an eternity
