Larian Studios Forums Divinity - Original Sin Divinity - Original Sin - General Cyseal monotony.

I love this game, and have started the game over and over again when new patches hit. My issue is that my characters are underpowered compared to the undead outside the city and that orc battle to the west ruins me every time. There doesn't seem to be much direction in how to find the next level-appropriate encounter outside of Cyseal. I've finished "The councilor's wife" and cannot* figure out what to do next. I found the sheep, questioned the moritician and all that jazz but I have no idea what the next step is. it's not just me either, I've played with a friend and we both end up getting bored of the city and wandering outside to die. It's possible that the fights outside are more balanced now though, since my last massochistic forray was a patch or two ago.

So I decided to test out my characters (both using lone wolf trait) and I'm doing much better outside now, I must have been inexperienced or the enemies have been better balanced since I last explored outside. Still don't know where to go in the main story though. I saw a walkthrough that mentioned an encounter where you learn about a lab outside of town, cannot figure out how to trigger that.

There is a tunnel under Cyseal with a couple entrance in town, if you search, or dig (see spoiler above).

The easiest gate to leave by is the only one that is open, behind the King Crab.

For combat near the gates, guards will come out to help if the gate is open, and you can use Arhu's ballista.

Investigate the murder to advance the main plot. First get a list of suspects (examine the crime scene, look for the body) and then narrow them down (search for evidence, or if a character has Pet Pal, talk to Jake's dog Murphy).

OK, figured out where to go finally, had to go around and talk to everyone involved and go through all the convo options but I got the lead.
