So I tried my best to not sound like an entitled brat with the character limit in the post title...hope it does not ruffle any feathers since it's a forum for kickstarter project after all. also Yay for 1st post!
I feel as for right now there's way too many click-dragging controls in the game, and not nearly enough keyboard functions.
The whole control scheme just leans too heavily on mouse.
The result is my right hand easily get very tired even just for a short amount of play, and I'm used to playing on-line FPS for 4~6 hours without many breaks.
Let's see.
1.Arranging party formations.
(This one feels pretty neat at first, it's very well animated and gives a very polished feel.)
My suggestion is to use the "space" key to break up your currently controlled char from the rest, while the rest members form a group of 3, and "ctrl+space" to completely break up all links between all 4. (This is the method used in Wasteland 2.)
2.trading items between chars.
Shift+1 so currently selected item goes to inventory of 1st character, and shift+2 to second char and so on (according to the current group formation). Of course this can co-exist with the current "open both chars' inventory, drag and drop" and "right-click for mini-menu" schemes. It also makes it much easier to transfer several items that are next to each other.
3.Crafting.
I don't think there's an easy way to implement keyboard controls on this, nor is it necessary. If other controls have options for shortcuts, this one can remain click-heavy.
4.Rotating camera.
I've noticed several huge threads about this, so I'll just leave my own opinion short: I think to be able to use "Q" and "E" to rotate camera in opposite directions would be great.
5.Switching action bars.
Just have "switch to next" and "switch to previous" two customizable shortcuts would be sufficient. Personally I'd be happy with "F" and "G" but I'm sure others have their own ideas.
It would be best if all these keys I suggested be made customizable, of course.
Also another small gripe....please make henchmen's click-box smaller for in-party conversations. I lost count how many times I click on them while sneaking around and initiating a conversation by accident, and it requires two additional clicks just to end the conversation window. I just don't understand the purpose of it, it's not like these henchmen have a ton of new and interesting things to say? I know they sometimes initiate "mile-stone" type dialogues during quest phases, I've personally never had the desire to talk to them during normal play though.
Anyway, enjoying the game so far, this is just some ease-to-use suggestions. All things aside, after playing a few other high-profile kick-starter games or early access titles, I think DOS beta is setting a new bar on overall quality.
