NO ... no I don't. :p

Seriously I don't recognize the game anymore. frown

I don't understand why everybody is so mad at 4th edition. It is a neat and easy to play system while still allowing all of the freedom of 3.5 if you have a decent DM and gaming group. I personally prefer it to the previous versions, which is probably why I'm not that excited about D&D next...

Mad at version 4.0 is not quite how I'd put it, at least for me. It is just a completely different game. Good or bad is not of any true importance, and to most of us 'old schoolers' the appeal was the unscripted aspect. I'm not sure of your experience w/ AD&D 2nd edition and prior, but mine was rich, imaginative and completely stunning.

I was roughly 18-21ish(circa92')...and we had a continuous campaign that lasted 4 years. Building our parties up from level 1. Our DM was fantastic, for he was raised in the culture his Father w/ his friends played, starting at age 7. The amount of imagination was astounding. I can remember most of the play sessions greatest moments some 20 yrs later thankyou

...Enough reminiscing, We eventually stopped and years later decided to try out later versions. We tried but it was like relearning the wheel for us...did not make much sense. Sure there are some cool ideas..so we just incorporated them into 2nd edition.

So it's not a hate issue..just differing. Let's get back on topic... meh

I played ADnD 2nd ed and I played 3rd edition (and some 3.5 via computer games) and I have to say, Thac0 was a horrible system. 3rd edition is not responsible for the removal of a rigid class/race system, modernisation is, evolution is, or as some people would call it "natural progression."

I don't understand people who claim their system was best and the modern ones suck, because I bet they use watches and not sundials, or use gps/satnavs instead of navigating by the stars. Thac0 was a HORRIBLE system and I am glad it got put to bed when they introduced 3rd edition rules, also changing rogue (can't say I understand why thief became rogue though) skills from a % check to being just a skill check.

On Topic: There are no classes in Divinity: Original Sin, there are merely premade characters to ensure people don't have to think too hard if they want to dive right in to the action. For the rest, you can mix and match what you fancy taking.

The chat system is handy to ask people for help if you get stuck, because sometimes you don't want to spend hours trying to remember who gave you the quest in the first place to hand it in because the journal misses a lot of that stuff out sadly.

As far as D&D goes I just prefer the older versions. Just makes more sense to me and is more structured. Could it be improved, sure, but so can 4th edition. But that's just me I really don't need you to agree. I'll live.

I understand how DOS does it as far as classes goes and I'm glad they did. It's a great solution for those that want classes and those that just want to build something from scratch. Kudos to them.

Never had an on-line chat system in a single player game before. Just take some getting used to but as I said I finally figured out how to turn it off. But you did point out a reason for it being there I hadn't thought of, thanks.

In my experience its all about the group. A good group can use any rule set and have a great time with it. As in the end, D&D (and all P&P-RPG's) are nothing more than cooperative story telling.

Its also human nature to resist change. Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.

I loved 4e (for the options and balancing) but found combat took too long. Playing 13th Age now for our D&D fix and our group much prefers it (We also play Runequest, cthulhu, Eclipse Phase and WFRP 1E).
A surprisingly large part of RPG's is what you're used to. WFRP is still the biggest seller in Poland because it was the 1st RPG published in Polish. Many people in Poland refer to RPG nights as WFRP nights even when playing a different RPG, the same way RPG'rs in many other countries have D&D nights with different RPG's.

On the 30th when the game is released, is there still only one map available and 20-30% of the full game, or are we getting 100% of the game and all 4 maps?
