i played through part of the demo...a PART because the demo constantly gives me crashes to desktop, and now when i try to load up my save, the demo crashes to desktop. it would even crash to desktop when i went back to the orc in the catacombs to try and complete the slasher axe quest. grrrrrr

but on a lighter note the game IS fun. ive been playing diablo 2 lately, and i like action rpgs like this...

so the obvious question is...is the game worth getting if i already have diablo?

from what i can see, these are the divine divinity strong points

keep in mind ive only played the demo, and i am LOOKING for feedback, so if you think one of my points is off please let me know.

- interesting quests

- descent graphics, and i like little details like how when you sheath your weapon it hangs at your side.

- i like the characters. (or at least, the characters i have met so far...which include 4 of the townsfolk in the town you start off in, and that guy who was harassing the shopkeeper with the funny hat)

- i like the soundtrack to the game...specifically the song that plays on the main menu. it has a eerie/creepy kind of feel to it that i like

but there are always bad points

- lots of crashes to desktop, which i assume and HOPE are fixed in the full version. if they arent fixed, then forget it.

- only three different skill sets? the standard warrior/thief/mage build. but also in the demo i saw there were other people i could pick to be than the warrior guy i had to be, though i assume the only differences in the other guys you start with are looks and starting attributes?

- its REALLY annoying how overly hard it is to click on objects to attack them. maybe it is just the demo, but it seemed that while i was fighting the skeletons in the catacombs that i could only click on the lower half of their legs to attack them, and their legs were REALLY skinny. dont mean to sound stupid, but half the time i would end up running in circles around them trying to click on them if they were a moving target, getting hit in the process =/

- no multiplayer. i dont mind this, however, if there is a STRONG single player. i really liked morrowind, and it had no multiplayer and what i consider a strong single player, but still.

thats all i can think of for now.

please give me feedback if you think one of the things in my list i was wrong about, or also anything else you think i should know while thinking about getting the game.

thanks guys =D

This game has a lot of action like Diablo, but is also a great "real" RPG in its own right. So it is definitely worth getting. But to answer your questions:

I have never had a crash to desktop in the full game (I never played the demo though). Make sure when you download the latest patch (1.34) after you buy it...it fixes some story bugs as well as technical stuff.

There really aren't three different skill sets...it's all one big skill set, like Morrowind. You choose how you want your character to progress. Almost everyone will focus on one area and have certain choice skills from another. The biggest difference between starting characters is their special skill and how their stats affect their vitality and mana.

If you hold the Control button down, it automatically targets the nearest creature to your mouse cursor. I assume this is also active in the demo. Kind of like holding Shift in Diablo to not move when playing a ranged character.

Nope, no multiplayer. But yes, like Morrowind, it is a strong single player game.

I think you will really like the game...I am sure that some of the more celebrated members of this community will have more things to say to convince you to get hooked!

Game on,

Yes. Diablo is focused on getting better equipment so you can kill more monsters so you can get better equipment. I found it fun for awhile, mostly due to the multi-player. Divinity has greater variety of quests, humour, story....

The latest patch fixes most of the bugs and makes it much more stable, though without knowing exactly why the demo was crashing (which was based on old code from before the game's release) there is no guarantee that the game will perform flawlessly. You probably will not have a problem, though.

There are only the three skill sets, for a total of 96 skills. There are differences in how secondary stats are calculated depending on class;

ya thats true, diablo is fun however it has an empty feeling to it...

it DID have a descent story, however in my opinion they stretched it out WAY too much so they made it weak.

that and doing the same exact quests over and over again...

so ya it is nice to hear that DD is actually a "real" rpg

It is a really good game and worth your money. There is alot of hacking and slashing in the game that is mixed with a briliant story line. The graphics are awesome. The full version I never had a problem with crashing. The quests are good. It isn't just a main quest that you follow but also sub quest that leads into the main quests. On the problem with the attacking just hold the ctrl button and your character will attack the nearest creature.
It was my money's worth buying it. And now I am addicted. I even gave away my diablo because Divinity is a great game.
I hope this helps but see for yourself

Divine Divinity is definately worth buying, I haven't patched my game and it runs great on my system, the quests and sub-quests are great, the story's great, the easter-eggs are great, pretty much all I have to say is that it's great!

P.S. if Larian had've implemented Multy-player, that'd have been great! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

I've seen it for about CAN$30 (~US$21); someone else (in the US, I think) posted that it was the best $20 they ever spent.

Australia still has it for about $60 or $70 Australian. It hasn't really gone down.

Check out Amazon.com...they "feature" it for $30, but if you look closely you can see a link that says "9 used & new from $13.96". There are people selling new ones for $20 and used for less. I bought Gothic new for $12 this way (plus shipping of course). Good for hard to find games, like Gothic can be, although Divine Divinity is still in stores (I hope!).

Game on,
