Hi,

I am having mixed emotions about the game interface, particularly with the combat. Simply put, I do not care for it at all. Waiting for your turn to hit is not very exciting and slow. Takes all the fun out of the fight in my view. I know it is still a beta, but I hope this is not the final version of the combat interface. Is there a way to combat in real time instead of by turn? Can I toggle it off? Please let me know if I am missing the point of the combat or tell me how to toggle to real time combat.

Also, where is the voices of the NPC's? Pretty tiresome reading everything.

oh gosh..did you not read much about the game before purchase? this is a classic style RPG >.< I thought they listed it was turn based. As for voices, a few NPCs are getting voices..just not all o.o

*mega-epic-faceplanet* No....the combat isn't going to change within the foreseeable century.

I think you're missing the point of the combat. Turn-based games like this one, Blackguards, Shadowrun Returns, and XCOM are supposed to have more in common with chess than Diablo. The gameplay is meant to be tactical, where you carefully coordinate and execute a plan while micromanaging your resources on an attack-by-attack level.

There is no option to disable this and play the battles real-time. To be honest, even if there was the encounters on the maps aren't set to deliver that kind of gameplay. Encounters are infrequent, mainly because the amount of time required to deal with each one in a turn-based combat fashion has been kept in mind. If you could run around and fight real-time Diablo-style you'd probably finish clearing all the encounters in the entire region of Cyseal inside of 20 minutes. Most of these mobs would die in two to three swings.

As for voices, they'll be available by launch. But even then they're limited to the overhead text that appears above characters heads, not the conversations that take place when you're directly communicating with them. All the text to read is pretty standard for role-playing games (like this game and Shadowrun Returns).

Thanks for the input. I guess that answers my question. By the way, I have read a boat load of reviews. I watched some vids of the combat but it is hard to judge when you watch and not play. I guess this is nothing like Divinity II. In fact, it is hard to believe the same company even programmed this game because of the contrast.

Thanks for the info on the sound.

Taste differs. I have every single RPG by Larian simply because CRPG players who are into story-focused ones around me recommend them. However, when I began to play them, I ended up bored every time and have never been successful in going too far from the starting areas. The reason is simple-they are all ARPGs. I read Swen's blog since I like the devs who try to communicate with their fans and found that he has been actually into TB games, which brought me into investing on this crowd-funding campaign.

So, I guess you are on the other side. I bought and played previous CRPGs by Larian only to find the core gameplays are not my cup of tea-even not enough to make myself keep playing them for other factors, which I rather liked. Of course, I've never complained this to Larian since it's just the matter of taste. I don't share your taste but I think I understand. Nice to see this thread remain civil, considering this kind of topic tends to end up flame wars.

Side note: There is a CRPG called Arcanum, where you can select from real time and turn based combat but it seems to have been hard for the devs to balance the combat, accompanied with the skill-based system. Although it is not the sole reason, it remains as one of Troika's "under-rated" games, means, it has its own charms but not without flaws.
