Are shovels supposed to be one use items or am I doing it wrong? Every time I use one it disappears from my inventory.

They are meant to stay. Never had one go. Pressed Alt to see if it dropped? Tried reloading?

I was digging in the graveyard and dug up some dead guy. Killed him ... again and when I went to dig another grave it said I didn't have a shovel. I found one sticking in the ground near some large dirt pile and used it to open a passage down, and again I have no shovel. It's like they are one-time use items are something, which doesn't make a lot of sense.

I'll try looking around for them.

They are only one timers if you accidentally use them as a weapon, notice their durability. If you only use to dig, they last a lifetime. OR you hit a bug.

Hmm ... I'll have to check it again next time. This group is stuck in the passage I opened due to some flaming dead guy turning one of my PC's to ashe and I can't raise them back.

So I'll be starting over again soon anyway. I'll have to watch and see what happens to my shovels though. Must have been a fluke bug. Good to know.

Thanks all!

Don't equip your shovel either. The game will auto equip it for you, then remove it once you're done digging. This could help with the mystery deshovelling (hehe).

Whould be also great not _replacing_ current weapon with a shovel, cause if you have a +const weapon, the vitality it grants is lost in transit

I don't think I equip anything. I just clicked on the dirt pile when the two moving gears symbol appeared.

I wonder if the shovel remains equipped if digging results in being pulled into turn-based combat. If so, you would have to spend action points equipping another weapon instead. Although I imagine you would have noticed your character using a shovel as a melee weapon, so maybe that wasn't it.

I suppose that is possible. That skeleton popped up just after using the shovel. I may not have noticed that she wasn't using a sword. I'll have to watch for that next time.
