Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make a decision. There are 4 rpg's under consideration:

Wizardry 8
Baldur's Gate 2
Neverwinter Nights
Empire of Magic

What are the pros and cons of each? What are the similarities and differences? If you could only choose one rpg out of this list which would it be? Any information greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Wizardry 8 - Since a lot of people here seem to like it, I checked out the demo. It is turn based, so that mitigates some of the things I don't like about the first person perspective.

Baldur's Gate 2 / Neverwinter Nights - I didn't like the controls

Empire of Magic - haven't tried it; GameSpy.com's review isn't very flattering.

Download the demos, and check them out. You may find one you really like, or at least narrow down your choices.

I'd go with Neverwinter Nights. Although, Baldur's Gate 2 is also pretty nice, but you should have a bit of patients with that one...

It clearly depends on what you like.

Each has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Absolutely. Alrik is right.

I'd really have difficulties in choosing, have 3 of them and wouldn't like to miss playing Wiz 8, BG 2, and NWN. Though I wish I had the time to play the NWN add- on I bought about 6 weeks ago

is NWN fun? I heard bad things about it, so decided to get BG2 instead.

BG2 is much better in my opinion.

if consideration on NWN is based purely on the game itself then it's not really worth it. if u consider the fact that there are so many fan-made modules that are way way way better than the official campaign, then it's really great.

still my 2 cents.

Avoid empire of magic, Ive read quite a few reviews and none of them liked it much.

Wizardry 8 is a very old school RPG, if you have played any of the others in the series you will like it.

BG2 is a great RPG with a good plot and NPC's. I love the way the NPC's talk and bicker amongst themselves. Fun!

NWN is good but not as good as BG2. I miss my party . You can have a henchman and I played a ranger so I had an animal companion as well, but it still wasnt as good as BG2. On the plus side the construction kit that comes with it is quite good and there are a lot of good fan made modules out there so you will get a lot of value for money.

Personally, I strip down NWN as being just an Editor with one Single Player Module.

If you have broadband connection, you can esily download masses of - sometimes very well made, I hear - fan - made custom Modules, and that's basically where NWN's strength lies.

I think I won't buy it.

Once Upon a Knight promises to be an innovative RTS/RPG mix about very funny, gallant knights and even funnier, stupid cows in a middle aged fantasy world of flying witches, dark priests, giants and also a lonely dragon. Reality Pump Studios, the developers of the Earth 2150 Series, will use a new Earth-III-engine to display a living 3D world.

Anyone heard anything about this game?... I gather it will be released first in Europe under the name KnightShift . The GameSpy preview info looked interesting, but have seen nothing else yet other than what is on the official game site.

With apologies to Lockmar for being off-topic again: KnightShift aka Once Upon a Knight official home page is here for US site , and here for European site. (European site would not load tonight...)

The story I first came across was at GameSpy, right here .
