Hey guys, only had the game less than a week & been very busy at work + haven't wanted to get into it too much or far, to avoid spoilers & having to redo everything from start, as will happen shortly after release.

Ok, so, in creating the 2 characters for solo play, I just have a couple quick questions for you beta 'vets' out there, given there is no manual available as yet:

- does the choice of class (i.e. fighter, witch, wizard) actually matter in the end, if you completely re-customise your character?
- will the class selected have any hidden or indirect effect on the game? So if I pick a fighter & change all stats/skills to be exactly like a wizard, will they be the same character with the same progression from there on?
- or are the classes just suggested, premade templates for people who want to get off to a quick start?

I find creating my characters to be a large part of the enjoyment & roleplaying aspect of crpgs, so would really love to know the answers to the above. Thanks heaps in advance!

The classes are just premade templates for people who do not bother much about the character creation at the beginning. It is a classless game - it means that even if you go with a rogue at the beginning, you can still specialise your character more into warrior skills afterwards. The selected "class" at the beginning does not have any hidden effect on the game.

I haven't played the beta, but it's worth remembering that Larian's games have always strongly emphasised player freedom, and to that effect have all been classless. So we can create our characters however we want, whether creating certain builds (along traditional class lines) or simply pick skills and talents purely because we'd enjoy them.

The only thing your choice of starter class affects are equipped gear:

If you wish to begin with certain skills, they require you to have the weapon equipped (eg you cannot take Ricochet without picking Ranger of Wayfarer).

It'll also affect starting armor, but ultimately these are very minor indeed - treat the choice of starting class as choice of weapon equipped at the start.

The issue of skills requiring certain weapons to be learned in character creation should be fixed in the release version.

Very cool, thanks all. Looking forward to creating a dynamic duo with a two-handed axe-wielding witch & a plate armour wearing thief. Or something like that smile.
