I'm an ENTHUSIASTIC D:OS Kickstarter backer and have been waiting anxiously for the final release. I would REALLY prefer the GOG version.

As everyone who visits these forums knows, there's been a lot of discussion about WHEN on 6/30 Larian would release the final game. Could I download it last night, well after June 30 has begun in Belgium? Most people guessed it would be some time this morning Pacific time. I've anxiously kept an eye on the Larian Vault, where the final keys were to be released, and also periodically checked my Steam account to see when the beta version would be shut down. I last started up D:OS on Steam about 6 PM last night PDT (right now it's about 8:50 AM Monday morning) and sure enough, it was still working, meaning no release yet. No keys were available in the Vault, confirming that impression.

Then Larian changed the terms about how to obtain the final game. No, the Steam beta version would NOT stop working, and if I started it up after the final release, I was locked into Steam. Well, I hadn't done that, although I did have Steam open on my Mac through last night. (Steam was running but no games.)

IMAGINE MY DISMAY when I opened the Larian Vault just now and found my new Steam keys, along with the statement this was final and could not be changed.

UPDATE 9:03 AM: Yup, they just updated the Vault and made it clear we CAN change to GOG. THANKS everyone

I'm getting that statement too, but I also get the message that if I want to change to GOG, I should come back later in the day. I'm assuming there will be provision for those of us that want to go the GOG route. I just wish they'd hurry up with it!

Don't worry, you are good & they are working on it: smile

IF YOU WANT TO PLAY D:OS ON GOG, log into your Larian Vault account and scroll down to "Your Rewards in Detail." Find the digital distribution icon and select "Change my digital distribution preference." Following these steps will cancel your Steam Early Access code and provide you with a key for GOG.

@madGamer We are in the process of updating Larian Vault to include the option to switch a Steam key to GOG.

You'll be able to change to GOG later, as stated in a big, red message box at the top of the kickstarter page in the Larian Vault.

I quote: "If you have alpha or beta on Steam but you want the final release on GOG, please come back later to change your Steam key into a GOG key."

Also, a bit lower, next to the "Divinity: Original Sin digital" option, it reads: "If you have requested an Alpha key before on Steam, please bear with us as you will be able to change this to GOG very soon. If you do change this to GOG, the Steam key will stop working."

So don't worry, have a bit of patience and you'll get your GOG key smile

*edit* I was too slow in posting this laugh

If you don't mind, I have few questions. Is there a compatibility between versions spread among various distribution sites such as gog and steam? Does have every "version" same functionalities? Can you play multiplayer on each of them with others no matter where they were distributed?

I normally wouldn't ask, but since there was quite big issue with these things in case of Dragon Commander, I'd rather knew about possible nuance.

It's 19:15pm CET here and still not able to get the GOG key. What a failure.

I feel the same. If we could at least use the Steam version until GOG is ready, but no word. I am kind of afraid that updating to final on Steam will prevent me to get the GOG version for good.

In RPGWatch someone posted that the GOG keys (?) should be there in ca. 1 hour from ... when it was posted.

Question in the sticky thread are simply deleted.

Still no word if we could continue to use the Steam version until the GOG keys will be ready.

Poor service.

I am pretty miffed that the Steam players are already playing the full version, while the FAQ on how to get the GOG version is still wrong on this forum. The wortst isn't getting it later, but I feel like I am punished for getting the beta keys. They changed the rules just hours before launch, and I am stressed about maybe not getting the keys at all. Seems like this move will push a lot of people to using Steam after all, so they won't have to wait. If I was paranoid, I would think this was a deliberate move to do just that, having some secret deal with Steam.

Larian already stated that you'll be able to change to the GOG version later on. Your Steam key will then simply stop working and the game will be removed from your Steam account.

The full game codes are the same as the Early Access codes, and "updating" the game to the latest patch will not invalidate your ability to change to a GOG key later.

Keep in mind that if you decide to change to the GOG key, you won't be able to change back to the Steam version again. This choice will be final.

RiptoR: So if you have 2 copies can you choose different distribution for each game code?
