I wanted a fire/earth mage henchmen, but I can only find the water/wind mage. I heard there were generic henchmen, can someone point me in the right direction?

Anyone?

They were at the End of Time in your Homestead in beta, not sure if they're still there or they moved

Yeah, you have to find some stones first until you can acitvate the hall of heroes at the End of Time I think.

Edit: I haven't seen a hall of heroes yet, so that may be it.

I didn't have any hired hands in the Hall of Heroes. Save for that one person (if you've been there you know who) the place was empty.

Farther along, past the table, there should be another NPC there.

Are the henchmen fully customizable? Also how does it work with their level, do they start at level 1?

After recruited, they can level and be developed as you wish. The initial 'customization' consists of selecting a henchmen from a list close to what you want (with higher level ones being more expensive).

What's the difference between using henchmen and the 2 companion characters? Do henchmen just have no personalities?

The companions have special dialogue/VOs that trigger on certain events and their own agenda/backstory. Generic henchmmen have none but their starting background that appears in a little textbox when hiring.
And most of the higher level ones have wrong skill/ability matchups, I hope that gets looked at.
Also many have points put into charisma which is useless for henchmen.
