...I'm trying to decide if I should bring empty bottles and go from Alchemy 1 to 3.

Also, are there beds in the wastelands at an outpost or store, or do you need straw?

Is there a base from which you operate from and teleport to?

Finally, are there a lot of charms available from the Orc there? I have slots for 8 and would like to get my primary stats up.

yes, the possibility to make potions is even higher than in the old places.
There are beds in abandoned houses and one house (base) near the orc trader, incl a cupboard. And the orc Shaman has gold charms - though very expensive: 100000 gp. Kroxy is cheaper: 50000.

There are enough golden charms, the imps drop them, too.

My "base" was the house I described, and I had one teleporter pyramid there.

Can you buy empty bottles there? I never got into making potions at all in the main game, so I don't have many empties. BTW- when you use them can you recycle the empty bottle?

I'm probably overworrying, unless the basic monsters in the wastelands are incredably tough, I feel pretty confident about my hack and slashing. Plus I have lots of strength potions for the big ones (although I rarely need them). My strategy so far has been to build up my offense, defense, armor, and damage. It works well till now with a 1 hand sword (damage 122-175, with charm) and the Dragon shield...and that's without the possable gains from the 8 charm slots I have available, or with the 1 hand sword everyone talks about that you can find in the wastelands.

I also have about 60 full and 30 minor restorations, plus 30 super strengths.

yes, you can buy empty bottles and Kroxy sells the potions, too. I had about 100 normal white and this was more than enough. As a mage I only needed enough mana

You can't recycle empty bottles. If you drink a potion, it vanishes (content and bottle)

you seem very well supplied
Kiya

Jeff, I only had alchemy lvl 2 in the whole game - and I was too lazy to make potions, I bought them.

I was able to get from hitting the gong, to finishing the game with only using about 20 minor restorations. But I was a warrior, and as Kiya said, if you are a mage mana is everything. So you may need more if your a mage.

You can make the potions in the wasteland, but it may just be easier to bring about 80-100 with you. That is what I did.
