Probably too early for this post, but here it goes. I am planning my team, I like to play slow so I would prefer to not restart by leveling incorrectly. All the primary statistics seem rather important to me. I like to set rules, such as strength should be kept 2x more than dexterity. Take a 2H fighter for example, what would your distribution be like.

Obviously strength would be highest.
Constitution seems important, should be kept at 2/3 of strength
Speed also seems rather important, keep at 1/2 of strength
Same for Perception, keep at 1/2 of strength
I suppose you need to dump int and dex, as you can't increase everything?

Wondering if you had any thoughts for pure warriors and wizards.

My strategy:

Focus on Primary stat (the one affecting your skills). Ensure enough to equip gear.

Gear selection also helps offset some "weaker" spots in your point distribution.

Example
9 base Str +1 from items
2 pieced of equipment require 10 str
replace item with +1 str, now 2 items cannot be worn.

I like to avoid situations like the above, as a marked upgrade could potentially not be equipped without sufficient primary stat investment.

I found it challenging to assign points in anything but the prime stat due to the aggressive requirements on items. For example, as soon as I had my fighter dip into Dex to be be able to use a bow for keep-away fights, I started finding armor I couldn't use because I didn't have enough Strength. I managed to keep them both topped off enough (with stat bonuses on items) to stay fairly current with equipment but I never had any points to spare for any other stat.

Another game I'm playing, Avernum: Escape from the Pit, has a mechanic where it slowly starts giving you a free point in each stat, cycling through them on level up. Strength at level 2, dexterity at level 3, intelligence at level 4, and Constitution at level 5, and so on. I like that system as it gives you some "credit" for getting stronger and helps you keep up a little bit as you progress. This could be a worthy a mod for Divinity.
