Hello,

I tried to play D:OS with a friend earlier today. We encountered the following problems:

Setup
--------------------------

Game host: My friend
Me: Joined player
Game edition: Steam (both of us)

We begun a brand new scenario. The following problems were encountered:

  • At various steps in the scenario, I was receiving "Connection Lost" errors.
  • After seeing a few too many errors, we decided to change the connection to "Direct Connect". I then proceeded to direct connect to the game using a server ID.
  • The errors continued. What is more intriguing is that, after "Connection Lost", there were cases where attempting to re-join the game (either through connect, or Direct Connect) produced the error: Connection failed.
  • When coming back from a "Connection Lost", frequently but not always my character was stuck behind walls or inside graphics /inside the ground. There was no way to reset the character, unless we loaded an earlier save.

In my understanding, this issue only resolved itself if the host / my friend saved the game, quit it, and relaunched it entirely. Me, the joined player, in some instances could never again rejoin the game, even with Direct Connect, even if I completely shut off the game and restarted it.

I do have the report.zip mentioned in other threads and can send it to Larian, but I thought to write something here, for the benefit of others as well.

The frequency of the errors was quite high, more than 10 in a matter of a couple of hours really. While my connection is not under the best set-up possible (using a wireless connection), this should not be enough to justify this level of disconnections, especially the fact that the game cannot be rejoined at all afterwards.

Since my friend, hosting the game and all, is a senior network engineer, I suppose we could provide advanced debugging info to Larian if needed / if this would help you fix the issues quicker.

Finally, I have a question: Is it possible (through DirectConnect or otherwise) to completely bypass Steam? While my friend and I both live in South Europe, I believe Steam servers are not exactly close to us (USA?) so it would help to remove them from the equation if at all possible, during multiplayer.

Thank you, keep up the good work, and fix these annoying issues please smile

I take it, by the lack of replies, that nobody has experienced similar issues? That's weird...everything is sailing smoothly in multiplayer ,then?

I'm fairly sure that a coop game is hosted by the player that created the game, steam doesn't factor in. However, you can completely close out steam and start the game from it's directory

\Steam\steamapps\common\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping\EoCApp.exe

If you go this route, you'll need the host player's ip address to do a direct connection.

I hate to slightly hi-jack this thread.

How do I create a multiplayer game where my friend can create her own character?

Or does she just have to join my game with the character I created for her?

I am very confused frown

Go into game menu and set Multiplayer to Friend. (assuming friends in steam)

Now choose Multiplayer to start.

They should be able to choose join from the menu and then filter friends only

They should see you and can simply click

Now you will be in the Char Creation screen they will take over the other player and can customize.
