Hello,

encountered a few bugs in the editor so far.

Rewritten part as it seems to have caused confusion:

1.) Loading up the Main mod:

After trying to alter the main mod, not saving, autosave off, I encountered an endlessly reappearing of the message window "you need dev rights to change anything". This forced me to close the editor via task manager.

This resulted somehow in saving main mod, corrupting it and making it unable to load nor possible to use its ressources in any other mod. The game and editor are functioning, if you switch the .temp file in the editor, showing that all ressources from main are gone.

Steam checking files does not work. Only reinstalling editor has no effect.

Wiping all game data (except registry).

Opening the editor and Main story mod will spoil the game! Do not open the editor/Main mod if you would like to finish the game without spoilers! Do not save when the main mod is opened. This can break the game and data/levels!"

No need to re-install the game. Just delete the folder ...\Divinity - Original Sin\Data\Mods...

You need to 'Mod' the main campaign, not alter it directly. At the moment when you create a new mod and select Main as dependency it show no levels, this will be fixed today.

Please reread my post as your information does not help in any way.

I am aware of the risk, therefore I did not save when main was open - autosave was turned off aswell.
The Editor went into a loop with the popup message "you need dev. rights" which forced me to close it by task manager.

Did you delete the folder "...\Divinity - Original Sin\Data\Mods..."?

Well, I wrote that I wiped all game data. And so that folder will have been wiped aswell. I am sorry, but it would be nice of you to read my full post.


Again I will point out the issue/bug:

endlessly reappearing pop-up window with the message "you need dev rights" when you try to change something.


The rest ist just, well, unfortunate that the editor saved and corrupted the files.

Yes the pop-up reappearing is a bug. But the rest is not.
Like I said, don't change things in the main mod, the editor will make new/extra files and the main story will be broken. This is easily fixed by just removing "...\Divinity - Original Sin\Data\Mods...". Nothings is corrupted or broken if you just remove that folder. No need to re-install the game.

Ok, Thank you. But again, main being corrupted is not the bug nor the issue here. It is just an unfortunate consequence. So stop coming back to it.

Consider this: anyone trying to load up any mod which is protected by password will run into this endlessly reappearing window always forcing them to close it by task manager and maybe corrupting other mods aswell. Once the modding starts, there might be new ressources etc. that will be lost aswell.

First i have to tell, love the editor. Was messing around a lot with NWN2 toolset back in the days. And i see lots of improvements here with the divinity editor.

Certain tools though dont work for me. I am alone here?

Although this thread is specified I prefered to use it, rather than opening a new thread. Tell me if otherwise was better.

No need to re-install the game. Just delete the folder ...\Divinity - Original Sin\Data\Mods...

You need to 'Mod' the main campaign, not alter it directly. At the moment when you create a new mod and select Main as dependency it show no levels, this will be fixed today.


When I create a mod using Main as a dependency and a data pack, I am able to open all the levels from he main campaign. However, I am not able to modify anything (control+b just shows grayed out text for any entity). I am able to add new things to the level however. For example, I can add a tree and modify it, but if I try to modify a tree that was already placed in the level by Larian, I can't seem to be able to do it.

Is that a bug that will be fixed today, or am I just doing something wrong?

Edit: Also Publish to Steam Workshop feature doesn't seem to be working. Yesterday it was giving an error, today the button is just grayed out. What's going on with that?

By the way, love the editor and the tools you guys are giving us to make our content smile

You need a password to change anything from main mod - as far as i know. You can protect your mods by password.

Okay, I figure it out. I unpacked the Main and Textures pak files which extracted into two folders One under Mods and one under Public. I took the contents to the "main" folder which was extracted to mods and placed it inside of my own Mod's folder under the Mods folder.

To clarify, upon extracting files from the paks I copied things from the below "Main" folder to the MyMod folder. I then open my mod and have access to edit all the scripts/levels/etc. which was in the Main folder previously, and couldn't be edited.

The main mod paths have hardcoded protections in the editor so it won't allow you to open anything for editing in the paths \Data\Public\Main, \Data\Public\Game, \Data\Mods\Main.
To edit them do right click -> Copy to my module ... on the resource, it makes them editable (another "fix" for this is hex editing the editor DLLs, though this is not recommended).

The annoying thing is that the original material scripts are not included in the game at all, only the compiled shaders, so you cannot really open any of the materials in the game frown
