Hello I bought Steam version but is has big bug - I create profile, I save the game, I exit and then I restart and "no player profiles found" message comes out and all my save is lost, forever!!
frown

I see profiles in Larianstudios directory, but the game doesn't know how to read them. It is because of the Steam version?
Can I get the version in the box instead?

Please help fast I read people are happy with the game and I want to play it as well smile

Thank you so much!

I actually have a very similar issue too but only on my work PC (I'm tyring to play D:OS in my lunch hour smile No problem at all with the game at home but every time I launch it from work, create profile and then restart game, profile is gone.

I'm in the process of completely removing the game install and reinstalling from Steam to see if that helps.

No idea if my issues is in any way similar to yours but I guess it's something about the Steam cloud save thing again?
I also saw the suggestion about using Dropbox on another thread but this does not help either. It's weird, because after using the mklink /D commmand I can see my profile being updated on Dropbox but again, as soon as I restart profile is gone?

Thanks for any help smile

You didn't switch Windows users, or anything, did you?

Are you shutting down all non-essential programs (especially anti-virus) before starting the game?

Try starting the game directly from the '..\SteamApps\common\Divinity - Original Sin\Shipping\EoCApp.exe' program file. Perhaps right click and run as administrator (though there shouldn't really be restrictions writing to My Documents, AFAIK).

Try browsing to the '..\Documents\Larian Studios' folder and renaming the 'Divinity Original Sin' subfolder. This will get the game to recreate it on startup, and you can create a new profile.
After that, try starting a new game (just as a test), save, exit, reload and see if you have an issue with the the profile again.
If that works, you can just copy the saved game folders from the previous profile folder you had, to the new profile folder. Each save is a folder in the '..\Documents\Larian Studios\Divinity Original Sin\PlayerProfiles\<ProfileName>\Savegames' folder.

Hi Raze, thanks for suggestions.

at first I tried to delete all local files and reinstall the game through Steam but no better and also, I set Steam to run as Administrator.

Tried setting EoCApp.exe to the same but no better, if I watch the larian studios folder in my Documents folder (on Windows 7) it shows the up to date time when I changed such settings as Video and Audio but no named profile ever appears. If I save the game by autosave or my own save the game just crashes immediately.

It may be something about my anti-virus or firewall as I'm at work however I have installed and successfully played many similar Steam cloud saving games before and during my brief try of the game before the launch, had no trouble saving in the Early Access version.
There is also nothing in my Windows Event Viewer about it!

SOLVED

It is a stupid and easy bug. I changed my default "my documents" folder (another location, not the one in windows) and the game got disturbed because of it.

I created a new user in windows with default folder settings just to play the game.

So I advise you to do it also..

Byae!

I have the exact same issue. It appears the MyDocuments folder is probably hard coded into the game and since it's looking for a specific path (c:\users\...) it doesn't know what to do and fails to create the folder.

For steam, I tried some switches on the launch commands:
-profiles=C:\foldername\Profiles

But no luck there. I had to do the same thing with Arma 2 so figured it was worth a shot.

The plus side is if you play a co-cop with someone, let them host it. You just need to create the profile and set video settings each time.

I was not going to reply as thought it just me being stupid so glad someone else has seen the issue! smile

I am still having no luck, my documents live on a network share so this could be something to do with it, however I have run lots of games before with no trouble which are looking for save games there.

I have even copied the whole Larian Studios folder from my home installation to my work machine and put it both in my network Documents and also in the local c:/Users/User/Documents folder which is not used but no good.
In fact I know it is looking at my network located docs share because if I go into the game and create a new profile, change some video and audio settings and exit, I see the new profile name appear in the playerprofiles.lsb in the network documents Larian Studios folder! But even though it can clearly see this folder, it completely ignores my previously saved profile copied from my home PC!

However, you my be right, at some point it is trying to save something to the documents folder and insists on going to a hard coded location instead of just following the path to the documents folder which it obviously knows about as I have mentioned above.
Thanks smile

Raze - would it be possible to move this thread to the Technical Issues sub? If not, I can make a new post but rather not create a duplicate if it's easier to move.

Thanks!

Same issue here, also work computer. Perhaps a permissions issue? Steam put the profile directory directly in C:\Larian studios, which is weird. Moving or deleting the folder just results in the game recreating it right there. I have read/write access in the dir from Windows, though.
Anyone have any ideas?
