2.8 dual intel processer, 4G Ram, GTX 550 ti, Win7sp1...

Path setting dialog showed on initial run. Set game and editor paths as suggested in game guide on steam. (I don't think I goofed that up). Message box constant flows with red text "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt"

Uninstall and reinstall did not correct error or let me reset the paths.

I also attempted to run engine as administrator from the engine folder.

Any ideas or at least something that would allow me to see the path dialog again?

Game is great! Thanks for all your hard work!

Update. Just saw more complex set up instructions in the "Mods" forum. I will parse that.

Please link to whatever instructions you used to fix this error. I have this error and was about to post about it but decided to search first. To find that someone has solved it without posting actual instructions on how to solve it does not help those who also have the error, like me!

DaveKap,

I will certainly post my progress here, and wish you the best of luck. I made the second post because I thought I should try the more complex instructions before I asked for help. To be honest the instructions (download this, unpack that, copy here, spin in your chair blah blah) convinced me I'd rather just play the game. I bet I'll look at it this week sometime, maybe, I am enjoying the game a lot. smile

I have the same problem here. I have not attempted to troubleshoot yet beyond changing permissions on the data folder to give everyone full access.

Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Game is installed on a different drive from my OS (and the data folder), and that is my first suspect.

SOLVED my problem. For the data path for my game, I had mistakenly selected the Documents path where random odds and ends are stored instead of the install path where the base game data is stored. Once I deleted config.xml from "../SteamApps/Common/The Divinity Engine" then I was able to re-enter my path info the next time I opened the editor.
