Just curious if anyone else gets consistent crashes when trying to use the preview option from the root kit.

Got the same issue.
It do that for every item , only for some you can click continue and go on wiring , other item just keep popping the window error keeping you stuck there unable to work unless you don't , somehow, manage to close the preview window.
