Is this the first time you turn into a dragon, after getting access to the full Broken Valley and meeting Talana? Or after taking over the battle tower?
In the first case, defeat a couple opponents there and fly forward, through where the statues are. In the latter, defeat enough opponents and you will be automatically returned to the battle tower.
In either case you should be able to save, though.
