There is a book about the disappearance of the Seven in-game, but it's not an explanation, mostly just an assumption, a hint, possibly a misdirection.
Either larian slipped some explanations subtly somewhere that I missed, or that part is just an intentional gap to be covered later. I mean, it could just be given an answer, or a whole game could be built around it, no?
