I have seven inert stones and 2 blood stones and the only rooms i have opened up are the homestead, henchmen dude and 1 elemental portal. Twice I got the alert that something was waiting at the homestead but resumed questing instead. Have I messed up and am now unable to get other portals to open?
I actually went through almost the entire game with only the first two rooms unlocked. I got to nearly the very end of the game and suddenly I had almost everything. I was running room to room and had something like four cutscenes back to back. I'm thinking that's not intended.
For the hall of heroes you have to return to the main room via the portal to officially unlock it. If you leave the End of Time by Rift Travel the first time you enter, it doesn't get finished (until you return, enter the hall and take the portal back).
That's not accurate, as both times I started out, I left via Rift Travel, and went back the same way (after discovering the second stone). I was able to access the Hall of Heroes without any problems.
