Yep, as previous poster mentioned. This way if you died in a pit of fire and poison and death and pain, you don't have to come back to life in it. If your mage ate it when two trolls walked into melee range and stomped you into pudding, you can place them back behind your tanky types. It's not just a feature - it's a rather nice one, honestly. You should be able to find all manner of uses for it if you're playing on a difficulty level that challenges you enough that you sometimes die.
