I am afraid I do not share with you this opinion Morbo but I have to thank you for bringing it up.
Mini-maps should be an overhead with an eye aligned on the normal to the plane of the ground or else it looses all its significance as a global satellite view. if it was simply a miniature view of the T3D view it adds would/ should not add any hidden information such as foes behind walls, which a satellite view can offer. The Divinity I mini-map was perfectly successful so why change it? You may wish to add zooming proportionality or selective zooming from the upper zoom level to another limit. What I mean here is that the mini-map’s maximum zoom-in could be the maximum zoom out of the satellite view of normal screens at maximum zoom-in to extend the view limits. When we zoom out on the playing screen the mini-map follows with the proportional zoom level that corresponds to it.
I am sorry I see no merit in having a simple miniature view as a mini-map.

I don't believe the <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" />Ö Minimap was perfect, like you said.

There was once thing I greatly missed due to the gread distances in the game : Pointing to a point where the char would go / travel to ...

(Which would leave my handwrist a little bit more relaxed ... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/winkwink.gif" alt="" /> )

That would not be a mini-map but a mini-navigator. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />
But that is another issue.

I have to agree that clicking on the mini-map should move your character. The extra ease of range would be very welcome. Clicking on the quest map to move might be a bit much. I can foresee too many accidental moves with that map.

i quite like the mini maps in <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> and <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/riftrunner.gif" alt="" /> makes a nice change from the usual overhead no detail thingy <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> speaking of detail i liked the way the mini map on <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/div.gif" alt="" /> had lots more detail than maps on other games, despite this being slightly unrealistic, i really liked it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> (besides, its a game! who needs realism <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />)

Could you please explain the differences between maps and pictures?
I was under the impression that maps have North, East, South and west indicators ... and ... aaaaaargh ... never mind. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />

A map doesn't have to be an orientational chart. You can have an out of scale or very roughly drawn map and still use it effectively. I think that the Divine Divinity map representing the graphics of the world is really good. There's no mistaking buildings, landmarks or directions.

I tried to read the map that came with GTa2, detailed with compass points. The icons were too chunky and I still had to search for where they were meant to be.

Good job, Larian!
