Have you checked out the suggestion in the topic Game crashes to desktop when...? It is a similar problem, though not necessarily the same cause. Try deleting all of the files in the ' ..\Divine Divinity\Run\Dynamic' folder. This folder is used as a cache for the game. Files are created / copied there from the save game folder when you load, and written / copied from that folder when you save a game. The files will be re-created as required the next time you start Divinity. If there was a corrupt file in that folder, deleting the files should fix the problem. After that, start a new game and try going down the well right away. That will narrow down if it is a problem with Divinity or the saved game itself.

Download and extract the crc files listed in the manual install post, then do a search and replace (in Wordpad, for example) so the listed path corresponds to where you installed Divinity. Then start FileCheck, switch to the Verify tab, browse to the edited crc file and hit the Verify button. Any difference between your files and mine will be displayed; zero byte or unreadable files are immediately suspicious, but those close in size are probably ok (there are some examples of valid file differences under the description in the manual install post). If you got that far, check the list of crc errors for anything that stands out.

"File C:\Program Files\Divine Divinity\Run\savegames\Jamie\world.x0 does NOT match."
Did you use my CRC file (from a known working install)? I moved my saved games before generating the file, so there should not be any old values to compare with.

i think i have figured it out, i downloaded the crc files and looked at the ones u listed, and it appears that i am missing the following files:
\Run\slashed-d3d6.cfg \Run\persist.dat \Run\sound.cfg \Run\dat\usernotes.bin \Run\sinfo.000

I think those are all configuration files, and may not be created until you change some options from the default or add notes to the main map (in the case of usernotes.bin), etc. In my clean install + patch CRC file, slashed-d3d6.cfg, persist.dat and sinfo.000 are present (I tested at 1024x768, Direct3D) but sound.cfg and usernotes.bin are not. Have you changed the sound volume or added notes to the main map? That should create sound.cfg and usernotes.bin. sinfo.000 - maybe system info? Did you use the default resolution, etc. when running the configuration program's test? Have you installed the latest patch? Did you already try a clean install + patch? Zip or otherwise backup your saved games folder to another location first, just in case (depending on how far you got). Then un-install, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs (especially anti-virus), re-install the game, perhaps start a new game and see if you can go down the well, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, install the patch, re-boot, shut down all non essential programs, start the game. This procedure is a bit over-cautious, but the best way to avoid install problems. Under Windows XP, make sure you install the game and patch from an account with administrative privileges.
