Hey Larian and everyone else, first I'd like to start off with huge thanks to Larian and the EA'ers for making this game so amazing, I've got 70 hours in so far and I'm about to enter Hunter's Edge. D:OS is definitely a title that all cRPG lovers have been waiting for, the last time I had this much fun with a video game was when playing through Jagged Alliance 2 1.13.
All that out of the way, I'd like to focus on stuff that could be improved to make the game even better.
1. I like the combat, it really feels like the best parts of ToEE taken, improved on and given actual effects which ToEE heavily lacked. My problem is with spells not having enough variation though, there's really lots of spells that are almost or close to copies of each other while they could be something more awesome.
For example tactical retreat and cloak and dagger (?) are basically the same except the scoundrel version costs 2 more AP. Instead the spell could be something akin to shadowstep from World of Warcraft or similiar spell from other games where your character teleports behind a target while dealing damage or status effect. Small changes like these would help tremendously with reducing the homogenization of abilities in the game.
2. I think some animations could need a little work, especially flurry and the rogue equivalent need to be changed to something less silly. It feels like in general spellcasters have gotten all the love in terms of spell variety and effects while melee is kinda stuck with casting fists and levitating in air. The cast animation for Rain on female character is really awesome for example.
3. More unique items! I'm kind of torn on the loot system, I think in single player games I prefer more having a fixed system where I know where all the great stuff is and I can pick them up whenever I need but at the same time I've played my share of Path of Exile and Diablo(s) so I understand the appeal behind randomized loot system. I do think we should have more uniques from bosses, quests or chests (like for example the graveyard chest opening chain should have some special unique at the end, or maybe some puzzles should give you special uniques).
4. The charisma system needs a rework or something that's more suited for single player. It's a shame that a stat as influential as charisma in RPGs usually is basically brought down to RNG. The RPS thingy works if you're playing co-op I suppose but for NPCs it just feels annoying, I've been just space bar'ing my way through the game and loading if I need to anyway, which eats at the immersion heavily.
5. Monk class! I love the unarmed attack animation and it's a shame it's completely wasted since there's no unarmed combat in the game. I hope this will be high priority in DLC or expansion for the game.
I understand some of this stuff can't be changed or added right now but I'd be really happy if it could be added or altered in DLC, patches or expansions later. I just hope Larian won't go the Bethesda route and leave everything up to modders, lol.
