I have loved RPG since M&M and even Kings Quest.
I was looking for something good after BG II. Neverwinter was not quite up to expectations [although still great].
I love Divine so far. I played the entire demo. Bought it and just started.
So far I am an 8th level warrior w/ sword expertise.
Quick questions:
Obvisously charming skill is needed. But do you guys like identify, pick locks and alchemy for a warrior?
I figure identify in stors, find keys or bash and just trade or pickup for potions.

Am I wrong?

Thanx again and congrats to CDV and Larian for a great game.
Can't wait to restart as a magician [it seems in every RPG games magicians have the best FX <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ].

Welcome to the forum <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" />

You can do anything you like with your warrior. I choose the female warrior (for the looks) but after a couple lavels Up she was a skinny dressed mage. So go on and endulge you fantasies of a stealing warrior or a magic survivor. Do what ever you feel like doing. If you get stuck check out the help section, theire are a lot of tutorials for warriors, mages and survivours (and spoilers if you get stuck). If you have a question please ask them, thats why we are here and again

Welcome Crimsonson,
You cannot be wrong in an open quest multi-class RPG.
As Morbo said, you might want to try the female warrior first and while you advance in levels you may add skill points to make your avatar a battle mage with some lock picking and trap disabling skills. You shall love the steel scorpions too as you can unleash them on a horde and let your avatar polish her nails and watch the horde go down while your experience points increase. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" />
Feel free to experiment with as many combinations as you can and remember to save more often.

Hi & welcome from a fellow newbie <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wave.gif" alt="" /> .
No real advice for building characters - still learning that myself! (Currently have about 6 skill picks saved because I cant make up my mind <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> ). You'll find most everything you need to know on this forum - it's one of the best of I've seen <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/up.gif" alt="" />.
DAD has a good point re the scorpions - they can be lifesavers in a tough fight.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" />

You mentioned playing M&M - just wondering if you ever tried Wizardry 8? Similar style to M&M, only far better (IMO <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif" alt="" /> ).

Thanx to all!!

I guess time to spend some of those 4 skill points <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
I think I am going pure warrior for now [yes I am playing with a female warrior also]. Usually my second go around I will do a multi class type character [this is BGII was best at].

No I have not tried Wiz 8 yet. I work full time and probably won't have enough work on it while I play DD. It was W8 or DD.
I enjoy 3D RPG but not as much as isometric view [birds eye].

Can't wait for DD2 already.

Thanx to all.

RPG junkie...

Saving skill points is good (if you don't see something you want to invest in), especially at the start of the game. You don't want to get up a few levels and find several skills newly available that you would like to get/upgrade, but don't have the points for. Warrior's tend to have spare skill points, though (especially if you rely on purchased spell books for mage skills), so don't worry too much about making poor choices.

Identify is a handy skill, but you shouldn't fail any quests by not identifying stuff right away, unless you sell or loose it (though the merchant should keep it, to be bought back), but most of them are one-of-a-kinds, have a unique graphic or are in a guarded location, etc. There is also a fix to replace lost items.

Losing quests? That sounds strange, but then I've always used Identify so I don't know.

I play a Warrior. I did take Identify as one of my primary skills (beefed it up as quickly as possible) for convenience. I didn't bother with Repair as I'd often be dropping off loot before any of my equipment broke. I never used Alchemy as there were enough potions available and you could purchase them readily. And I only took Lock Pick as a secondary skill to complete the Theives Guild quests. I have opened almost every door and chest in the game with the correct key or lever. There do seem to be a few chests, mostly as treasure rewards, that do not have keys though.

It comes down to personal preference. Enjoy!

Actually, even if you had Identify, there is not much indication from the sword itself that it must be put back. If you read the quest log it tells you to do so, though. There is a warning from an elf to replace it if you walk/run away from the area, who should have been made to interrupt you if you tried to teleport.
