So I'm playing a cleric and I found this club. It's writing is brown and it says it's unique. On top of that is it UNBREAKABLE.

So ... now my cleric uses this to break every door and chest. Never again do I have to worry about damaging my weapon. Never again do I need to use lockpicks.

Is this right? In a game where one of the options to opening items is to bash them ... and I find an unbreakable club? It just feels like someone messed up in adding that to the game, or in allowing things to be broken into.

Nah, I've seen a handful of unbreakable weapons as I've wandered about. And you're right, they are indeed very handy for smashing open containers. Isn't there a chance of reduced treasure when you use an item to smash open a container, though? I don't recall if anyone ever actually outright stated that, though, so I could just be drawing an assumption based on my experience with other games that have involved breakable containers and smashable locks.

In regards to doors, though, I don't think it's a huge deal. Most doors have keys hidden within walking distance, anyway. That, coupled with the fact that many doors are apparently purchased at the "Ironwood Super Door Outlet" make unbreakable weapons kind of welcome. I mean, seriously, even folks in the starter town apparently sank tons of money into purchasing the sturdiest doors available, to the point where I went through one-and-a-half handaxes just to chop down an interior door in the local tavern. wink

Considering how any caster can cast spells without losing weapon durability to breakdown doors and chests, it's nice that melee gets a workaround for skipping the lock picking skill as well

"A lot of" chests and doors cannot be opened by smashing on them. I think you absolulty need lockpick or the corresponding key.

If you have discovered that you can use this unbreakable to open some stuff, profit!!! wink

No, although I really wish there was. It doesn't even appear to impact Lucky Find.

True, I forgot to mention that I've done this a few times myself. It's definitely more tedious, due to the wind-up time attached to most spells, but blasting open containers with spells (or, more accurately, with a dozen or so sequentially cast spells) is pretty much the equivalent of bashing them open with an unbreakable weapon (or your fists).

Yeah I recall the older TES games you could bash stuff but it reduced loot (plus damaged your weapon).

I would like it if the game encouraged warriors to bash, rogues to use lockpicks (that don't break every time) and mages to use OPEN spells. But in a classless system it's easy for everyone to just default to bashing.

Doesn't fist only do 1-2 damage? I can't imagine sitting through that for a 500HP chest wink

True! But I do occasionally use my mighty fists to punch open broken vases, which will occasionally drop an item you can't otherwise get. Broken vases only drop an item when "Lucky Find" triggers, and can't normally be "opened" like a container. smile

You can ctrl+shift+9000mouseclicks and while things are happening go and make some tea, clean house, go for a walk with your turtle.

Unbreakable weapons are one of the several mass market concessions Larians made.

Or you know, they just thought it would be cool if a weapon had the unbreakable property.

Yeah sure. "cool" - for whom, exactly?

Thats why durability plays no role whatsoever now. Items either never break down at all, or are fixable even if they go to zero and then you have unbreakable weapons on top.

All because lowest common denominators cried about having their weapon broken - because they refused to pay attention and fix it in time.

Which of course makes the blacksmith skill much less relevant.
