I just entered Stormfist castle the legitimate way and went through Janus' whole "you are my lord protector" stuff and then he tells me to meet him in five minutes in his chambers...but he is nowhere in the entire castle and I obviously can't leave. Is there something I'm supposed to do in the meantime to trigger his appearance, or did the game screw me?

Did you find his room (east of the thrown room, south of the treasure room, second room north of the kitchen)? Try walking around the room close to the walls; sometimes he hides and doesn't show up until you get close. The first time I was in the room he wasn't visible; I started to loot the chest at the back of the room, but he walked away from the wall just before I got to it.

I just tried your suggestion, but to no avail I even looted some stuff from the room to see if I'd get caught. Any other suggestions?
Also, thanks for the welcome

He is usually near his bed or standing in the middle of the room. When I went into the room he wasn't there but move to the far right wall and he may appear. Hope it helps and welcome

Yes, it can happen that some characters are hiding behind a wall. Try walking close to the walls, he might show up then. See, he's a real brat

Well, I walked up and down, left and right until I covered every part of the room and he's just not there. I checked every green dot on my radar and none are him. He's just gone, along with the hours I spent getting to this point

Do you not have a recent save? Try exploring some more of the castle, and come back to Janus' room later.

No recent save, because all I've been doing is quicksaving and I saved both in the castle. If all else fails, what's the next stage in the game? I can handle that hex editor no problem I'm sure, and maybe if I just throw myself into the dungeon or wherever's next, the game will move along just fine.

Unfortunately, if the game doesn't think you have been kicked out of the castle, I am pretty sure it will not trigger a subsequent required quest. Try resetting Janus' position, as described in Reviving dead NPCs (search for 'Janus53'). Some characters who show up in more than one place do not follow the described data format, but Janus seems to (I don't have Divinity installed to check, though).

I tried the revivification thing, and he's still not there. I teleported outside the castle using the hex editor and the guards don't act like i'm trapped inside, but once I go in I'm stuck there again and he's not there. I guess it's just time to restart the game and hope it doesn't do that again
EDIT: Thanks for your help anyways, everyone
