The XML is not in your Documents folder, its in the game installation folder, eg. mine is at
D:\Apps\Steam\SteamApps\common\Divinity - Original Sin\Data\PlayerProfiles.

Still not working as of patch V1.0.130.

Me neither have those folders/files.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Divinity - Original Sin

Here the following folders:

_commonredist
collectorsedition
data
shipping

Nothing else.
